This is what happens when you give MIT students guns and too much time. Some of these are actually pretty cool.

I have a friend who is a Dr. of Biomedical engineering. Graduated in three years with honors, Then went to Med school. When he was going to Purdue in the 80's . He and his geek buddies made tennis ball cannons and would use their HP calculators to figure out tragectory speed etc. While shooting tennis balls over the dorm. This was their beer game, he who did not do their math right had to buy the beer. Got to love geeks. For some fun here is a linky for some geeks

MIT actually has a pretty decent small bore rifle and pistol team.

"Pistol Defeats Army, 6322-6216

Diana Nee Posts Range and Institute Record in Women's Sport

Nov. 21, 2005

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The MIT pistol team won its third consecutive match by defeating the U.S. Military Academy, 6322-6216, this past weekend. Diana Nee established a new range and Institute record in women's sport pistol (572) helping her squad post a 2753-2628 victory over the Black Knights.

The air event was tightly contested as the top three spots were separated by five points. Daipan Lee picked up the victory for MIT by shooting a 552. Army's Casey Miller finished second with a 550 while Raja Palaniappan and Daniel Hickok both totaled a 547. Diana Nee and Walter Lin each tallied a 545 to take the 2189-2153 win.

Diapan Lee posted his second win of the weekend by recording a score of 535 in the free event. Jameson Boscow led the Black Knights with a 514, but it would not be enough as the Engineers' Lin and Palaniappan added marks of 506 and 501. Samuel Lee's total of 465 helped Tech take a 34-point (2007-1973) victory.

Diana Nee led the way for MIT in the standard event with a score of 549. Lin and Boscow tied for second place with a 533, as Army's Maxwell Pappas finished right behind them with a 532. A pair of 522-point performances from Lin and Tiffany Seto gave the Engineers the 2126-2090 win.

MIT dominated the field in women's sport pistol as all four shooters posted scores higher than Army's top-finisher. Diana Nee's recording-breaking 572 was followed by a 552 from Seto and a 543 from Christine Nee. Yunja Chen's 533 did not count towards the final score, but it was one point higher than the Black Knights' top tally from Hannah Leadbetter. April Furr finished right behind her as Kimberly Schultz notched a 528, which closed the gap to 76 points (1667-1591).

Diana Nee and Christine Nee finished 1-2 in the women's air pistol event with scores of 373 and 361, leading to a 1086-1037 win. Lindsay Bishop led Army with a 353 while Yunja Chen and Tiffany Seto finished right behind her. Angela Wu closed out the scoring for MIT with a total of 306."

I wouldn't have thought that a card could turn the bullet so much.

MIT won collegiate nationals last year as well. They were only the second team ever to beat out the military academies. My team, Ohio State, was the first.

Geeks with guns, gotta love em. Their coach is one hell of a nice guy.
