OK grab your sweats, boombox and a big ass piece of cardboard. Cut it up DJ.

Just tracked down a show I hadn't seen in over 20 years...

Yes boys and girls it's "Graffiti Rock" the pilot for the show that never happened. A Hip Hop version of Soul Train or Bandstand. In many ways is was seriously cool.

After all it did have guests like Kool Moe Dee.

And yes that is actress Debi Mazar when she was 19 and blond.

How could it possibly have failed you ask?

Well first the DJ Jimmy Jaz was seriously fucking lame.

And the only bigger dork was the host Michael Hollman.

And the hip crowd of dancers included the usual retards, like the guy in the big ass hat doing "The Wall."

And Howdy Doody was there to make an ass out of himself on national TV.

Hey everybody look how cool I am. I put shoelaces on my pant legs.

Could I be any gayer?

Of course they weren't all bad.

And they had cool music guests.

It is actually difficult to stand next to DJ Run and look like a complete fucking retard but the guy in the burgundy Kangol somehow manages to do just that.

And of course they had my girl...Shannon.

When all the other female R&B artists were putting out the same old crap, Shannon was banging out the serious jams.

The girl just rocked shit.

And of course there were the NYC Breakers.

Somehow "fast" doesn't seem to be a suitable description.

Ahhhh the 80s. So cool, so lame and all at the same time. Glad I was there for all of it.

Man, that brings back memories.

I will freely admit to being enamored of breakdancing - especially the physical stuff the NYC Breakers and Crash Crew did. It was stunning, from a gymnastic standpoint. The dancing shit did nothing for me, but I liked to see those guys windmill like that, it's neat even now.

But, you're right that show was uber ghey.

WTF?!

You were doing okay with the Shrike, and the supressed rifles and all...

Then you slipstream back to a time that i'm glad i'm too young to remember coherently?

Please tell me, that in all your honorary negro glory, you didn't wear parachute pants...

Say it isn't so, Steyr...

Crash Crew were rappers, you are probably thinking of Rock Steady Crew.

I was attracted to breaking due to my involvement with martial arts.

It was mostly a "see what I can do that you can't do" sorta thing that appealled to teenagers and a way to show off for girls. It was fun.
