I installed a new HP printer and everything worked fine for a week or two, then I get an error message that my print spooler isn't running.  Uninstalled printer went to reinstall get the same error message.  Tried to go thru the windows wizard....no joy.

Any Ideas?

try and start the service

click on the name, and either right click -> start, or when you click on the name, there will be a vcr Play button looking icon near the menus

if it wont start, it should give an error message why

start the system in safe mode... then go to control panel administrative services... set print spool to manual then restart. go back and turn it on... problem fixed.

You also need to check the "Remote Procedure Call (RPC)" service and make sure it can start, since the spooler service depends upon it.

Check the system event log.  Why and when did the Spooler service stop?

Are you using native XP print drivers or are they drivers that came with the printer?

It is dependent on RPC and a LexBce server...I did some research and the Lexbce server was for the Lexmark printer that I uninstalled, correct?  So why that not uninstall with the printer

RPC is running...LexBce isnt....

Ahh ok you need to uninstall that service.  Is the name of the service (not the display name) "lexbce server" ?

Go to a DOS prompt (start -> run -> cmd) and type
sc query type= service | find "Lex"

Post the results.

edit: just double click the lexbce server service in the service manager and find the "Service Name:" it should be at the top, above the "Display Name"

i've personally had this problem before.  it is directly related to that Lexmark service.  Goto control panel and Add/Remove programs and remove anything lexmark that is in the list.  then uninstall the hp drivers from the same place.  restart and reinstall the hp drivers.

whats the model number of your printer??

lexmark and hp have manual removal tools occasionaly for certain printers.   that you have to run alot of times to get rid of all traces of the software, registry, and everything else.

printer spooler start? is rpc set to manual? try to start rpc if so, then the spooler

also check the dependencies for the print spooler and work backwards, see if the services are started or have trouble starting
