So, there is this word that rhymes with "bonk", and it will supposedly get you banned from ARFCOM. What is so horrible about it? Yes, I know the real word, but why do some find it offensive?

for some reason, a few people get really offended when you say it. the rumor is that "tonk" is the noise that's made when a mag lite comes in contact with an illegal's head. i heard about it several years before coming to arfcom, but the first time i mentioned it here, i was bombarded with ibtl's

ETA: i seriously doubt it's use would result in a banning... at least i hope not

Yes, that is the word origin. Coined by Border Patrol Agents I would guess about 20 years ago or more.

I have seen threads locked here when this word was refered to, and I expect this one will too.

The word is a long way from being policically correct.

My post was to confirm the word origin.

I am not trying to do or say anything offensive.

I think this thread should end now that the question has been answered!

I never heard of the word before it gained notoriety here. I guess there's not a lot of INS agents here or border patrol to spread the term. I'm sure there are illegal aliens here, but the ones that get caught are mostly from Eastern Europe.
