I felt the same way in the 80's until I fired one in FA. I think you will change your mind if you get the chance.

Well, it could be explained by....what red blooded American male DOESN'T like some good lesbo action!  As far as the AUG being teh ghey...I wouldn't go that far...but hen compared to a nice M4 with rail system handguards, VFG, Aimpoint ot EOTECH, etc...its kind of like spoken French versus spoken German....one sounds kind of soft and feminine, and not at all war like, while the other is hard, angular, and sounds like the Blitzkrieg is coming..... |

I enjoy my TWO Steyr AUGs over any AR15's For a gun that was adopted in 1977, the Steyr AUG was a WAY ahead of its time. Here is a list of what makes the AUG a great rifle: Compact size (20" AUG is the same size as a Thompson SMG) Polymer construction Quick Change barrel system Clear plastic mags ( Now SIG, and HK use this) 1.5 Circle optic sight ( look how long it took get low power optics on our armed forces to use optic sights. Aimpoint ,Trijicon, EO Tech......) The AUG is an unconventional rifle...but shoot one and then you will see why people like them. Chris |

Why does polymer construction and plastic mags make a gun great? I bought a brand new one about 20 years ago when they first imported them. I think I paid about $800 for it. I sold it in a few months because real guns shouldn't be made of plastic and have plastic hammers/triggers/sears. Seriously, the main reason I sold it is because I had an issue where it would have occasional misfires from light primer hits.

I remeber seeing them in SGN in the 80's for 799. As I recall, nobody wanted them. On a recent trip to Austria, I saw a soldier in the Vienna airport with an AUG and a Glock. Great Austian plastic!  The black AUGs are the shiznit. |

Huh? The AUGs VFG is more comfortable and ergonomic than any other...and its the same size. It also folds up out of the way, unlike what else is available And how the the scope gay? Top name 1.5x scope w/range finding 'donut of death' |

Polymer mags and plastic mags do not make the AUG great...but you have to admit the Steyr AUG was ahead of its time. If 20 to 30 years after the AUG was adopted by the Austrian Army we see guns like SIG 550/ HK G36 using mags that are plastic like the AUG. And we see guns like FNP90, FN2000, Tavor, G36, UMP MP7, Walther G22, Beretta Storm etc etc using polymer construction like the AUG. The AUG is not THE GREATEST rifle ever built but it does deserve to be considered a gun that was a head of its time, and help to inspire other weapons. Chris |
