I think he's had it since the 1960s

I assume yours doesn't have a bent barrel?

I've wanted one of those since grade school.
Bent BBL and all.

The Cody Firearms museum near my town has a 2 gauge shotgun, and the shells in a display case next to 4 through 20 guage shells. I cant remember the actual size, but it dwarfs the 12g.

Now that I've remembered about it, I'll try and get a picture next time I'm there

44/40 XL Shot. Was an old falling block breakdown shotgun my buddies dad had when I was a kid. It had a barrel that was way under 18" so was definately a pre 1934 weapon.

Run into ignorence on both sides of the counter

I had a guy come in with a old rigby rifle in 275 rigby  he would not believe me for anything that it was 7x57MM he called me a dumb son of a bitch and that i was tryig to kill him
another guy had a savage 99 in 303 savage again he was convinced it was a 303 brit and basiclly told me I was "dumb bastard"  and left

weirdest i have seen was the martinis in 410  with the weird forked hammer that would only take a certain 410 for Eygpt  colonial police

Is anyone still trying to rationalize what a great round it is?

If you have small hands, there's no rationalization to it.  It makes possible .45ACP performance in a smaller handgun package than is physically possible using a conventional .45ACP round... what's so hard to understand?

I am by no means a big fan or proponent of the round, but I certainly can see the sense behind it (maybe because of my small hands - I really struggled to learn to shoot my G21s well ).  I only own one .45GAP pistol and it hasn't exactly "sold" me yet.  I like the combination of power and small size, but unless it catches on much more than it has already (i.e., ammo more readily available and less expensive) I am skeptical of it finding a permanent home in my SD battery.

where do you get ammo for it? At least for my Cadet, I found the components to grow my own.

Dixie Gunworks & a few other places that specialize in weird/obsolete ammo carry it.  Not cheap because of the limited production runs.

That's a German StG-44 with a "shoot around the corner" adapter on it.  Seriously.

I used to have a 6.5 Carcano rifle ...

Now, even though they are not that un-common, I guess it would be my Contender barrels in 6mm, 6.5mm and 7mm TCU.

A friend of mine has an old revolver that locks the cylinder forward when you cock the hammer back.  The hammer is extra long and shells are very unique.  When he handed me one, I thought it was an empty casing, but the bullet was actually several mm inside the case!  He had a dozen boxes of shells for it.  I beleive it was 7.62mm too?

Any Idea what it might be?

I know about most of the cartridges listed. There were only a few I'd never heard of.
But, based on the original question, 7.5 swiss isn't a bad answer.

I can't really think of anything too off the wall that I've ever seen. An Arisaka maybe.

I mean the weirdest caliber I own is .17HMR. Not exactly off the wall stuff.

Not by any means a wierd cratridge but the total combination is approaching it.  I had a Norwegian Krag in 6.5x55.  Unfortunately the Krag action pretty much limited the cartridge, but with a 30" barrel it moved pretty smartly.
