They were on Fox News with people complaining about their spending monies on non educational issues.

You mean the public teacher's union with the usual socialist leanings?
Link Posted: 1/7/2006 4:08:09 PM EDT
They have destroyed public education. Liberals
Link Posted: 1/7/2006 4:10:05 PM EDT
Another Socialist organization bent on the destruction of America as some of us once knew.

Thanks

and those of us who actually WORK in public education, who will agree that it's far from perfect, would say that the NEA is doing its best to represent the interests of a dying profession.

flame on...I'm used to hearing it from armchair educators

Recent flings how shown the NEA donates a hefty chunk of its $300M take to liberal/progressive organizations that have nothing to do with education.

Also the salaries for NEA employees are quite generous.

George Soros is an ass but it's his money and he can spend it how he wishes. When orgs like the NEA take money from teachers (who do not make much) and give it to non-education oriented groups it is a ripoff.

You mean like supporting renewal of the assault weapons ban?

It would be hard to find a group of libs who have done more damage to the former USA.

I'm a teacher and have been for the last 17 years.

I refuse to join the NEA because of their political BS. I'm in MD, which is not a right to work state, and the union still takes $265.00 a year out of my check as a representation fee which is supposed to amount to that which is expended on my behalf to negotiate my contract. The cost for "full membership" is less than $300/year.

So....it takes $265 worth of expense to negotiate my contract (multiplied by several thousand teachers in this large district) and the remaining $35 for full membership pays for the magazine and all of their political lobbying? Riiiiiiigghhht

What can you tell me about the National Education Association?

Nothing that won't get me banned.

WADR, I disagree as to the NEA doing its best for the teachers. I submit that the NEA is doing its best to prop up a deeply flawed enterprise and to get liberal Democrats elected.

Most...not all, but by and large most of the members of the NEA, are far-left liberals. Most of their union dues goes right into the coffers of the DNC or to more liberal causes.

58 million dollar payroll at the NEA.

600 employees.

Do the math, then don't bitch when teacher's average salary is $48K per year.

"What can you tell me about the National Education Association?"

I feel the same about them as I do about the UN.
Pull all funding. Watch it die.

I was a high school school counselor before I went to work in ROTC. I didn't join NEA or the state organization either. My co-worker was a liberal tow the line democrap, er, democrat, but she didn't used to say much to me about it. I missed out on their meetings and such but it didn't affect me one iota. Some of the teachers and counselors used to say that I was benefitting from the contract negotiations but I just told them when the NEA quits giving money to organizations and causes I don't believe in, then I might join. I didn't feel bad about not giving them money at all.

I'm a teacher, and a member of the NEA. Against my will, I fear. I have to be a member of my local union to teach, and I am also therefore a member of the NEA.

I hope that I can learn to forgive myself someday.

Alright, Johnny, I said hard, not impossible!

All the teachers unions are the same....bunch of liberal minded sissies....And yes I know, I used to teach and my wife is now a teacher....

Case in point. Do you know how much money the teachers union in California pumped into adds against an Arnold Proposition that would have allowed teachers to say that they did not want any portion of their extorted money...errr dues...to go to the political parties???? Millions and millions and millions of dollars.

NEA can blow me.
Link Posted: 1/8/2006 8:02:19 AM EDT
NEA?

Keeping under-qualified educators employed is their only objective, aside from training your children to be good little proles and left-wing liberals.

Their motto is "3 Reasons I Teach - June, July & August"
Link Posted: 1/8/2006 8:22:19 AM EDT

I know that they pay the guy in charge about $500,000 a year -- and soon will be accountable to their members for political contributions.
