I'm about to turn 40 and although I've got a lot to be thankful for, it really is bugging the shit out of me. 3 months to go, March 8th, and I'm 40, f*ck thats old. I never planned on being old. Right now I'm feeling some guilt about stuff I did and stuff Ididn't doand stuff I wish I did. My body doesn't recover quickly when I do the things that I used to. I wake up and bones hurt, knees pop, sholders don't move like they used to, the brain don't work as fast. These things didn't bother me before, now they do. Is this just a phase? Will it get easier, or do I just go on from here watching stuff break down - wheels fall off the wagon..... I hope it's not that way.

Sheeeit lad... The difference between 20 and 40 is nothing compared to the difference between 40 and 50. Getting old isn't for sissies.

I'm 36 now.

My girlfriend at the time I turned 30 (my wonderful wife now) brought a fucking walker with balloons tied to it to the bar after work on my 30th birthday.

I'm not looking forward to 40

41 here, my saying is that "it's all down hill after 40"! Yes it gets worse with age, welcome to the club!
Link Posted: 1/6/2006 5:03:54 PM EDT
Happened to me last year. My wife threw a great party, then she gave me a blowjob and an AK47 underfolder... what's not to like about turning 40 ?
Link Posted: 1/6/2006 5:04:29 PM EDT
It was just like the day I turned 30,I thought ,damn I'm old.
But nothing was different. Then turned 40,and thought the same thing.
But again, nothing much changed. Guess I'll wait till I turn 50,and see if its any worse,I'll let you know in another 5 years.

Age is relative. I saw no difference from 20 to 30, and from 30 to 40. 48 now and I still refuse to grow up. If you wish to sit and dwell on being old, you will be.

I should be so lucky

I'm getting closish to 40, and I look better, and am in better shape then when I was in my 20's.

I think that the march through the 30's made me realize that I need to take care of myself, and I now WORK on keeping my body fit. I skate, bike, and swim, all things that I enjoy, daily.

As far as the things that you haven't done yet, until you're dead, its never too late.

Good luck.

Then again, maybe I can find joy in raising stray birds, how is the little fella anyway?
Link Posted: 1/6/2006 5:18:23 PM EDT

One time I was predator calling with a buddy who was a little older than me . We were hot footing it across an open area trying not to be seen prior to setting up a call. I looked behind me and he was dragging. I was about 35 and he was about 40. I was in top shape at that time and had run/ worked out nonstop since I was 23. I was like "What are you doing? Come on!". Later he said "When you get 40 you are going to feel it". On my 40th birthday I ran 5 miles to prove to myself I was still a Superman. My buddy was wrong. I didn't feel it until I was 41. Now I have a ruptured disc in my neck from man handling a canoe (like I always did) and find it a lot harder to keep in shape. Old injuries are starting to talk to me. If my wife isn't in the mood nowadays I tell her "You better get it while you can at the rate I am going". I have seen a lot of my buddies get way too heavy and have heart attacks. On the plus side all my guns I bought when I was younger are now out of production collector items! My Mom always said "If young people knew what was going to happen to them they would all shoot themselves". I keep my 2 1/2 pinned and recessed Smith Model 66 loaded with one round of SuperVel now just in case.

Your eyes will go bad
Then your hearing...

I look better now that I did 10 - 15 years ago.

Feel the same as always.

Age is only a number. It's how well you care for yourself.

Samson is very cool - thanks 688 - I think I'm gonna have to spend a huge some of money creating my own cave/shower to get over this turning 40 thing. At least I'll be able to enjoy being wrinkled

Kind regards

50..... now that's a different animal all together.

at 40 you'll start thinking right

Old age, it ain't for sissys...

Tomorrow go to the range and shoot all the guns you can carry, then drink some quality beer you were to stupid to enjoy 20 years ago, then screw someone half your age, you'll feel better on Sunday.

As a friend recently told me...

The only thing wrong with being 50 is you have to screw 50 year olds

40 isn't anything. When I turned 50, I got myself 2 25 year old gals and had the time of my life!! Now I'm 55 and counting! I get more pussy now than when I was in my 20s! Only now it's all quality stuff that KNOWS what the hell to do!

Just remember this...

"Any day on this side of the grass is a good day".

Who cares how old you are. How well do you take care of yourself makes a huge difference. I'm in far better shape than some 30 year olds at work. And it pisses them off.

Before 40--Unstoppable. Walking ridges all day scouting deer hunting areas, squirrel hunting, etc. No health problems, could see everything from a mosquito's proboscus to the moon.

After 40--High blood pressure, GERD, Degenerative Disk Disease, Prostate cancer, need reading glasses, heart palpitations, have to work at keeping weight off, and currently being checked out for sleep apnea/stopped breathing when falling asleep.

Enjoy the 40s.

Oh yeah, it still beats dead.

EDIT--I'm 47

I turn 40 next month. I can already tell my eyes are getting worse. Probably not due to age though, just too much time Arf'ing.

Same here, except I am starting to feel it in the morning. I don't jump out of bed as fast anymore (except for that "in the middle of the night" dash to the toilet).
