You win.

The only really good deal (not amazing or anything) was when I bought a LNIB Bushmaster M17S for $400 shipped. It was on the EE here about four or five years ago or something.

Of course, since then I've spent more than that customizing it - so was it REALLY a good deal?

My Dad bought a Springfield NM M1A stainless barrel, scope mount and Springfield 6X scope for $800 at a estate auction.

M1 Garand
Winchester reciever made in October of 1943
All SA internals
Brand new barrel

$350 off a guys shoulder at a gun show.

- Traded a NIB Ruger Mini 14 (not the Ranch Rifle) for a LNIB post-ban Colt HBAR.

- Bought a basically new Rem 700 ADL in .308 for $200 at a garage sale, of all places. Guy even gave me the remaining 16 rounds in the only box of ammo he had bought for the thing.

- About four years ago a guy I worked with told me he had a pistol he never shot, and wanted to move, and thought I would appreciate it. I asked him what it was, he told me it was a custom Colt Anaconda, said he was asking $500 for it. I told him I would take it right away, figuring A) I knew he took care of his firearms, and B) it's not often you can find an Anaconda at that price.

Well, turns out it's not an Anaconda, it's a Kodiak.

in 1996, Colt made 2500 of these for sale in Alaska only. Magnaported, target trigger, target hammer, target sights, unfluted cylinder, it's a sweet handgun and very unique.

Oh good grief - at the Milwaukee gun shows, $350 is the average asking price for most -13 Winchester Garand op rods.

$20 for a used Ruger 10/22 when I was about 15. That things has seen more bricks of .22LR than I could ever count and has always been faithful. Just recently ordered a new bolt for it because it's worn out around the extractor.

Got my Colt 6920, NIB, with a case of Lake City and a case of South African, for $700. I think that was a good deal.

You said purchased so I won't include those I inherited.

I bought, sight unseen, a "single shot .22" for $25. Just a deal through a friend of a friend. I figured it was some old hardward store .22 that would need repair.

It turned out to be a rather scarce German made prewar Simson Gentleman's .22 Target Rifle. Double set trigger, butter knife bolt & superb fiddle back maple stock. It had seen better days. The bluing was nearly gone & the finish on the stock was badly checked from smoke & age. I restored it to it's original beauty.

Remington Rand M1911A1. Free. Gift from coworker. It's been refinished and the markings are faint, but the price was awesome.

Best deal involving money: Different coworker had an NIB (POS) Jennings-Bryco that he wanted out of his house (It might leap out of the closet at night and slaughter his family). He offered it to me for sale and I had less than zero interest. After some prodding, I showed him what they were selling for on GunBroker and offered him $30. Went home with a new gun that evening. I sold it at a funshow a few weeks later for $90. That's the only gun I've ever owned & sold.

In 1975 I ordered a Sako Forrester in chambered in .243 Win. for just over $200 while stationed overseas. After about two weeks of waiting the gun club called me in to let me know that they couldn't get the rifle I ordered and wanted to know if I would accept a Sako Forrester Deluxe instead.
Of course, I accepted the deal...what a beautiful rifle it was. It had a blonde wood stock with a high comb, rosewood grip cap with an inlay of a tree, rosewood fore end, a mirror polished blueing so deep that it looked as though you could dive into it, rear peep sight, silky smooth action, etc. I topped it off with a Redfield Widefield 3x-9x.

I miss it.

In the 1970’s I got a retired police officer’s service revolver and his off duty revolver for $5 each. He just wanted to get rid of them.

In about 1962 I got an apparently unissued Savage-made Lee Enfield from Sears (mail order) for $11.99. Granted, I don’t know what that would be in 2006 dollars.

I got a LNIB Glock 36 for $345 from a local gun store.

I paid $1295 each for a few Colt LE6920 HBARs (I consider it a good deal considering what I later sold them for - except one of course).

Unfortunately, those are the best deal I've gotten on guns that I can think of off the top of my head. I've gotten plenty of good deals though on other guns.

I don't know you and I already hate you.

Best deal I've ever gotten aside from family castoffs and inheritance is a Ruger SP101. Kid who's father-in-law passed away asked if I might be interested in it. Showed me a NIB SP101 and Galco holster. Just kidding I offered him $50 and he said give me the money. Next day he brought in a whole box full of ammo, bullets, primers and a set of stag 1911 grips. Told me I could have it. When I said I felt like I was cheating him, he said its either you or the trash. Seems I was the ONLY person he knew who even liked guns much less owned any.
