The Waltons, IMO.
Very good quality programming. Lots of actors/actresses which lends itself to multiple plots. We have seasons 1 & 2 on DVD and are looking forward to the rest. |
I vote for The Sopranos, Oz, or Real Sex. We're an odd bunch, however.

I like Ozzie and Harriet. It was hard not to want to grow up in a family like Ricky and Dave's. Father Knows Best, no way.
ETA, considering this ran 14 years (435 episodes) from 1952-1966 I can see MANY, if not most of ar15.com did not see one episode. |
There have been some good ones!
The Cosby Show Andy Griffith Little House On The Prairie Airwolf I can't pick just one! |
"The Wonder Years"
"Little House on the Prarie" Different era's but both GREAT shows! |
Those are all good ones! BigDozer66 |
Oh yeah, Wonder Years was a great show, how could I forget? |
Family Guy is a good family show. It's even got family in the name. It must be good.
although not my favorite show of all time, that's what came to mind immidiately after reading the thread title. |
The Waltons? Never watched even one episode. Was it really that good?
First thing I thought of when I read the thread title. Hated it as a kid, loved it in my mid-late 30s. Very good show and the original retro-show. John Boy would be a cross-dresser and Ralph Waite would be growing weed up on Walton's Mountain if it were made today. |
Everyone always says. "the Cosby Show" but I thought it sucked ass.
I'd go with Little House and The Waltons. |
Your are correct on all counts!! |
James Evans, Sr. was one of the best fathers on television (Good Times, 1974-1979) and CBS never should have killed him off. Cosby was LAME. |
The first three seasons (early 70s) were some outstanding television. As the Walton children grew and other characters were introduced, IMO the storylines became convoluted and the new characters and situations were just not as interesting. When the Walton grandparents died, the show jumped the shark. |
I lost track during the post-WWII era. Very confusing, but I'm sure it was a confusing time. |
I just watched the 10 minute prequel to the upcoming season. OHHH man! |
Then you'll love the fact that Teri (Holly Sampson) went into porn. |
The key word there is Family. I may be old fashioned but don't think most shows today are family oriented. The ones I like are....
Little house on the praire Andy Griffith The Waltons Bonanza The rifleman Gentle Ben Newer shows Malcolm in the middle Stargate SG1 Stargate Atlantis Star Trek TNG (there are life lessons to be learned if you pay attention) |
Most people these days have never seen it but the best one I ever saw was Turn Off the TV and Go Outside And Use Your Imagination.
It's amazing that our children today can't go from their room to the school without a DVD. I truly believe that the greatest loss of current generations has been their imagination. They are force-fed their imagination for them. Very sad. |
Dude..... Ick... I can't stomach that show. Bleeech!!! |
Need to locate some of that. |
While the series aired on television, only Grandpa died. Grandma was around for one or two of the TV movie reunions that were made in the '90s. |
You're right. IIRC, Grandma left the show due to an extended illness. (stroke?) Regardless, when Grandma and Grandpa left the show, much of the show's original chemistry was gone. |
I can't believe nobody's said it yet: I Love Lucy
Followed (IMHO) by Andy Griffith. I also vote for Star Trek:TNG (just 'cause I grew up with it) and "The Wonder Years", but there's some material in those programs that make them not-quite-suitable for the entire family spectrum. |
Needless to say I got all excited and googled the fuck out of her name..I don't recognize her from the google pics, who was she ? She wasn't the hot British blonde sister... ETA:There is no Teri in the cast of Wonder Years,or Holly Sampson listed as an actress..Dammit. |
"The Donna Reed Show"
1. No body else has mentioned it. 2. Donna was hot, as in I'd hit it! And thanks to Tomislav for that snake eyed pic of Barney. ETA:
He's gotta be talking about the hippy sister. Olivia D'Abo. Damn- she didn't age too well. |
Family Ties. GREAT show.
As a kid, I also liked Alf and The Dukes of Hazzard. |
Andy Griffith, hands down IMHO.
There is hardly a life-lesson to be learned regarding family, friendship, citizenship, morality, honesty, loyalty, etc. that was not handled - and handled well - on that show. |
Do you think Andy ever married "Miss Crump" and if so, did he live to regret it? |
You didn't see the reunion movie "Back to Mayberry?"... |
I wasn't a big Waltons fan, but I did like that Waltons Christmas movie called the Homecomming. They used to run it every Christmas season but I haven't seen it in years.
Andy Griffith. Good clean humor, good morals, great characters.
