I loved the Omlete with Ham, to bad they don't make it any more.
Link Posted: 1/2/2006 6:24:58 PM EDT
I liked the chicken and rice but they ditched it too. I now rely on the beef ravioli and cheese tortilini meals.
Link Posted: 1/2/2006 6:27:17 PM EDT
I love the crackers and the cheese spread.

I need to raid my stash.

Link Posted: 1/2/2006 6:29:02 PM EDT

Only thing I could eat were the crackers and jelly and the M & M's found in #11
Link Posted: 1/2/2006 6:29:37 PM EDT

Link Posted: 1/2/2006 6:30:17 PM EDT

I just ate a 1995 one yesterday (Dark Brown pk). It tasted just fine and I'm still alive to beat it all. Applesauce was a little "off color" but not too bad so I scarfed that too. YummY! Only problem is I can still taste it when I burp today.

You do know that MRE's are extemely high in calories and are meant to be consumed by people that are using a lot of energy, right?

Link Posted: 1/2/2006 6:43:04 PM EDT
why are you breaking into the MRE stash? The only times I did that was nights I was to drunk to leave the room but still desired a warm meal and during financial hardships. Of course those MRE's where a mix of free complete MRE's and 99 cent entrees picked up at misc places. After seeing how much MREs cost these days I couldn't image just eating one casually, for the cost I'd rather get some takeout food.
Link Posted: 1/2/2006 6:44:38 PM EDT
Do you like the counrtry captain chicken?

No matter how hungry i got when i was issued mre's, i just could not eat that damn thing.
Link Posted: 1/2/2006 6:45:33 PM EDT
I ate a 1989 one a few months ago, still hasn't came out yet.

Maple Nut Cake.

Yuuummmmmm
Link Posted: 1/2/2006 7:06:21 PM EDT
I thought they were ok until I joined the Army.
Link Posted: 1/2/2006 7:51:14 PM EDT
I am basically not fond of canned foods, and MREs are canned foods without the can. Basically, I can tolerate it, but I don't necessarily like it.
Link Posted: 1/2/2006 8:01:08 PM EDT
Doesn't this look appetizing?

That's the Bean and Rice Burrito.
Link Posted: 1/2/2006 8:08:43 PM EDT
LOL why are you guys eating these they will make you fat as hell. Plus if you eat enough cheese spread your crap starts looking like it. Hey why not go for the full experience eat em for a few days then when you have to shit try wiping with the provided TP.
Link Posted: 1/2/2006 8:13:52 PM EDT
ah i see the mistake being made. i was told DONT LOOK AT IT JUST EAT IT!!!
Link Posted: 1/2/2006 8:14:23 PM EDT
Knock MREs all you want, but when I was at Pendleton I would eat MREs out of my wall locker rather than going to the chow hall and eat the crap they served there.

I like MRE's better than Bridgfords (Rost Brick), but I don't *LOVE* MRE's although they can be safer than grubbing out in the DFAC. Of course, you're not there to TASTE your food, you're there to EAT your food.

Link Posted: 1/2/2006 9:35:39 PM EDT
if this is your first then you really missed out. the MRE hit its peak in 2000. since then they have gotten too ethnic. and country captain chicken? WTF is that crap? i hate it. chicken and rice was the shit, i have seriously seen dudes fight over that MRE.

I liked the cheese and crackers. I lived on MRE's for 3 days on a canoe trip. Where can you still get a good supply of them.

Do they still make the chiken stew?

It looks like orange beer puke like if you got too drunk and ate cheetos but it still tasted good
Link Posted: 1/2/2006 10:13:47 PM EDT
That reminds me of the Fat lady form New Orleans on fox news.

"dey give us dis miltary foo, it cold, it don't taste very goo, you can't even eat it"

WTF?

I aint no galloping gourmet, but MRE's are fuckin nasty...I don't eat the damned things unless I have too...

The hamburger patty tastes like canned dogshit...

The chicken disaster they serve at the chow hall here is much better than any MRE...

Link Posted: 1/2/2006 10:30:44 PM EDT
I liked a few of the old ones, but I heard they changed them and have never tried the newer ones
Link Posted: 1/2/2006 10:32:13 PM EDT

Don't put it on a plate! The flavor will escape.

These are only meant to be dug out of a foil pouch with a long brown spoon.

During GW1 I would eat two at a time. I think the PB tablets we were taking boosted up my metabolism.
Link Posted: 1/3/2006 5:17:39 AM EDT
You can tell the guys who never had to eat them for an extended period of time.

Tuna with Noodles was my favorite.

Ranger pudding wasnt bad either.
Link Posted: 1/3/2006 5:41:07 AM EDT
I liked em too, for the first week.

What about old school MRE's?

Dehydrated pork patty with dehydrated ketchup! Man, that was the shit! I would let it soak in water for exactly 1 minute, 30 seconds, and pour off the water. The, the dehydrated ketchup on top. Soft on the outside, crunchy inside, with the grainy ketchup granules on top!

Frankfurters with bean component, another classic.

I remember when the omlete with ham came out. I ate nothing but omlete with ham as an entree for probably two weeks (plus the coffe, cocoa, crackers, etc). After a few days, my urine smelled exactly, I mean exactly, like omlette with ham. Trouble was, everytime I took a piss, I got hungry!!!

I have literally eaten hundreds of MRE's. (and yes, for extended periods of time) I never got sick of them.
Only thing I couldn't stomach was when the MRE's got "enemy friendly" I don't want all that touchy feely liberal homosexual eight arm worshipping dirty night shirt wearing bullshit. Vegetarian MRE's. No pork MRE's. They suck.

Oh, sorry to get off topic.
