What's a cheap (free) and easy (dumb) program I can download for animating gif's?

I use Adobe Image Ready to animate gifs, but it's neither cheap nor easy.

I have 4.5 hours to get my gifs together.

Or I can take a nap...

The GIMP (gimp.org/) will do it.  The learning curve is a bit steep, but it's worth it in the long run if you're going to do much with graphics.  You put each frame of the GIF in a different layer then when you save it you simply hit the radio button telling it that it's an animated GIF.z

I want something with a 15 minute (or less) learning curve. Just for an avatar, nothing fancy, just a couple of images in sequence...

gotta find a way around the 12K limit - I had a 75K piece that was OSCAR material.

Getting a 75k animated GIF down to 12k (I thought the upload limit was 10K), and not compromise on quality is going to be next to impossible..

Optimize the animation...

Reduce the colors...

Eliminate some frames..

Resize to 80x60 pixels.

well gosh and by golly it's hard to cram all that is America's Sweetheart™ into a measily 12K.

This may be the year to do something about it!*
