I imagine it would be completly legal as long as it used an air compresser and not .22 blanks.

Nope, never.

Why, did some video game playing geeks already think of it?

When I was a kid nail guns were brand new and they did not have a safety like the ones today that require you to have it pressed up against something to fire it. We killed some stuff with those things.

it is easy to make a nail gun full auto. just add on a few shoestrings

If your goal is just to make something useful into something that throws nails around with slightly more accuracy than a PLO suicide bomber, it would be pretty easy.

If your goal is to be a really fast carpenter, you better be one agile MF'er because the thing is going to tend to jam unless you move quick.

We had a guy in our crating and shipping dock launch a few nails into his hand one evening. (After working hours as a matter of fact) We never really heard how it happened officially and he never really firmed up his story. We figure he was working on stuff for his own use and/or experimenting with making it full auto. In any case it was nasty and he was terminated and the union didn't grieve it.

One nail might be an accident, although you have to work at it, several nails into the palm of your hand has to be because you are doing something wrong on purpose.

The true value of nailguns to shooting enthusiasts is that ammuntion companies should begin making .27-caliber rimfire ammo, based on the already-existing .27-cal nailgun loads.
