Motorola had to develop a Razr for their TDMA network, as the originals are for GMS.

I told alot of people why they wouldnt work when I was with Verizon.

They had a CDMA one but it wasnt E911 ready so it couldnt be sold.

Probably that it's compatible with CDMA networks. I base this on the fact that the Razr with iTunes is called the V3i.

I thought about buying one... my dog ate my phone last week, so I looked into buying this without a contract...

However, based on previous experience with my previous BlueTooth phone, Verizon has a deal with Motorola to BLOCK access to many features, to force you to buy from Verizon. Some features would never be available, like transferring your own images, ring tones, movies, etc. to/from the phone using your PC, unless you use a known crack (if one exists) or crack it yourself...

Verizon wanted to charge me $419, but Motorola sells them for $369 "MSRP".

Another problem-- I can get out of my 2-yr contract (only 6 months into it) for $175 and sign right back up w/ Verizon for $199 and have the same phone... but again, its a restricted phone...

OR... I could cancel my contract for $175, and get the GSM version of the phone through Cingular for $99 (same contract period). Buy.com has it for $88 w/ a $90 rebate! I would spend less, have an unrestricted phone, and can swap phones easily by moving my SIM card... plus their calling features, 3-way, call waiting, etc. seem to be user-friendly on Cingular, unless that was the particular phone I was using...

Only downside, Verizon has free internet (the slow version) if you use your minutes (evenings and weekds are free). However, with all the free hotspots these days, its not worth it...

i need to stick with verizon because of their nationwide coverage. but I wish all this shit would standardize. you go to walmart and buy a phone for your house and it dont care if you have AT&T or Southern Bell or JimBobCom. why cant I just get the damn phone i want and the service i want

the v3c is an upgraded version of the original razr v3. though similar, the v3c has upgraded camera, 30mb user storage, and video playback, among other improvements. its only available for verizon right now.

IMHO

Cingular is right behind Verizon for coverage area, but Verizon is the BEST. CDMA is also better for voice clarity, as the crappy GSM and older TDMA phones were warbly sounding.

Check Cingular for a regular V3 for $70 with 2 year plan through sam's club. $99.00 in store, and $39.00 on Wirefly.com.

Alltel has the V3c, but of course the coverage may vary.

There are other carriers that use the v3c as well. However, Verizon restricts what you can do on the phone that uses their service... Basically paying for features you will never be able to use.
