This amazes me.

There's a new electronic toy that asks 20 questions.

You think of something, answer these sort of vague questions, it guesses what you are thinking of.

It often gets it in 20 questions and most of the time by 25 questions.

Amazing.

How does it work?

play it online:

20q.net/

Simple mathematics.  You are zeroing in on your answer at an exponential rate.

For instance, let's say there are 20,000,000 possible common objects that 99% of people would think of.  Every round, they ask you a question with 5 possible answers so you narrow the possible choices by *roughly* by 5 (in reality a little less since the answers are not really discrete).  doing the math...

Start: 20,000,000 possible choices
By Q1, it is reduced to 4,000,000 possible choices..
Q3... 800,000
Q4... 150,000
Q5... 32,000
Q6... 6,400
Q7...1,200

You can see how quickly you converge on your answer.  And it only takes 11 tries before you narrow it down to 1 choice.  As I said above, it's not completely discrete but 20 questions is plenty to determine most objects.

You can have Darth Vader ask you...

Sith Sense

That's cold ... you need a warning.

I'm almost certain they use the same database and/or decision logic.  Darth asked me a lot of the same questions as the first website did when I was thinking of a "shitweasel".

Also, Darth's "force-fu" is weak.  He didn't even get "Kaiburr Crystal" right, and he more than likely uses one in his own lightsaber.  I told him that, too.  "A kaiburr crystal from the planet Mimban; used in the construction of [usually] Sith lightsabers.  I thought you'd have know that one, Lord Vader..........?   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaiburr_crystal"

This is as much a "test" on the game as it is of yourself to be able to answer these questions.  Are you able to correctly and adequately describe your object?  I see it as more of a game to answer correctly so the game does get the right answer, than to try to "fool" the game.

Let me try hemmorroid (sp?)............I'll get back you you
