The most common type of electric guitar ever made,  particularly if you take into account  an incredible
number of copies of varying levels of fidelity to the original design.

It's the 9mm of electric guitars.  Usually it's quite utilitarian, and it's a working man's instrument
rather than a high end, precision tool for the discriminating enthusiast.

Personally, I consider a Strat to be the very pinnacle of mediocrity,  optimized for cheap, rapid
production and satisfactory playability and performance, but really,  the vast majority of them
are run of the mill, middle of the road, absolutely nothing special at all.    A few are outstanding
for various reasons, but most are very ordinary and nothing to write home about,  as can be expected
of an instrument that's made by the hundreds of thousands by hourly wage workers in a factory,
rather than by skilled, dedicated craftsmen who build musical instruments by hand because they
love to do it.

Yes, I do own a Strat.  A rather nice one, as it happens.  But in no way is it on the level of any other
guitar that I own.    However,  it's only fair to point out that every other guitar I own, I built myself,
and I'm now able to compete at a very high skill level with most "big name" professional luthiers,
if I set my mind to it.   I'm just not doing it for a business.
