As pointed out they make great trunk/truck guns.  Something you can plink/have fun with, but it lives in the vehicle for when SHTF and you are not at home.  Not as bling bling as your AR, but something that is easily (cheaply) replaced should your ride be jacked.

With the black or green furniture, most people cant tell the difference between an AK and a AR.

I'm currently doing cost analysis comparing AKs to SKSs for use as trunk guns/BOL guns.  Not my primary SHTF rifles, but something to keep in the cars and to keep/loan out to family and/or keep at the bug out location.

AK's they fall into the good enough category.

I'm partial to the AKs with the conventional OD furniture.  A modern classic look.

Anything you can do with a .308 AR that doesn't involve precision accuracy at long ranges, and of course the massive advantage with regard to reliability under severe conditions.

Basically anything you can imagine doing with a small rifle that doesn't involve precision accuracy or four legged animals over 300lbs.
