I worked at a coffee shop in about 1991. We roasted our own beans, etc. so I have a general idea what I am talking about.

Starbucks coffee is burnt. It is low quality and over roasted.

Why do people drink it?

Its "trendy" AKA dumbasses.
Link Posted: 12/18/2005 8:43:41 PM EDT
Same reason people buy Glocks - a product overrated due to name recognition.

Because it's cool! And the burnt overly tannic coffee costs like $2.00 so it must be good. Of course since the $2.00 coffee sucks by itself, maybe you should upgrade it to a $5.00 super half-caf Mochalatte supreme to make it smoother!

Starbucks blows and is way over priced.

Dude, I just came from a site where they list the number of Starbucks right next to the city's land area.
Link Posted: 12/18/2005 8:49:04 PM EDT
We just got one is this town a few months ago, until then we were free.

cuz there's an ass for every seat.
Link Posted: 12/18/2005 8:50:54 PM EDT
It's terrible stuff in my opinion.

I can get the Starbucks taste with Folgers Original by brewing a pot with an old gym sock and wait overnight before drinking.
Link Posted: 12/18/2005 8:52:49 PM EDT
I like their non coffe strawberries and cream drink. 770 calories of frozen fruit and sugar. yummy.
Link Posted: 12/18/2005 8:55:24 PM EDT
Because we got a gift card for it.

It's awful.

I'll stick with my Nicaraguan when I can get it (www.contracafe.com), Folgers, or gas station coffee.

There are few things better than gas station coffee. Why? Because it's made for people who don't want anything fancy. They just want a goddamn cup of coffee.
Link Posted: 12/18/2005 8:57:27 PM EDT
Because cheapass folgers/maxwell house/etc can't compare to four shots of expresso when I'm struggling to make it through 10 hours of class after staying up all night writing papers. Quit ordering the sissy drinks when you go there and maybe you'll find something that's good you pussies.

Internet says you are supposed to.

At the one at the Radisson in Philly it took me 5 GODDAMN MINUTES to get a cup of straight up black regular old coffee.

That's a sin, and god will make them pay.
Link Posted: 12/18/2005 9:02:03 PM EDT
My alternatives at the office:

a) the floor coffee maker, that is chock full o' hard water deposits and has a pot that is literally older then I am,

or,

b) the starbucks coffee they sell downstairs at the cafeteria for $1.50...

I usually go with a). at least it tastes decent.

I'm currently drinking Selva Negra from Nicaragua!! www.selvanegra.com
My Stepmom just came back from a trip there and brought some back. I love central american/south american coffee. My favorite is from Honduras though.

I'll take Folgers instant over Starbucks any day.

Actually espresso is a sissy's drink. There is more caffeine in a regular cup of coffee than an espresso. It's a function of time...

Convenience, mainly.

Though the free Internet hotspot certainly is a major selling point amongst people I know.

Now I'll tell ya... we have a Starbucks IN our grocery store that happens to be in the SAME shopping center as a STARBUCKS... so TWO in the same shopping center. The coffee in the supermarket Starbucks tastes superior to the coffee the starbucks store just 100 feet away makes.

Riiiiiiiiight. I tell you what, you drink 12 ounces of expresso and 12 ounces of regular and then tell us all which one packs more go-juice. I never said anything about one expresso did I?

they do it because it keeps their mind off of what they'd really like to do:

perform oral sex on members of their same sex

coffeefaq.com/caffaq.html#IsItTrueEsp

I'll see your quote and raise you one.

Surprisingly, a cup of drip coffee has more caffeine than a shot of espresso.

home.howstuffworks.com/question645.htm

The most common misconception about espresso, Morkides says, is that it has more caffeine than coffee. The opposite is true.

the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2003/Mar/05/il/il01a.html

The amount of caffeine that is in your coffee depends on many variables. Drip coffee has about 100mg of caffeine in a six-ounce cup. A double shot of espresso has about 50mg of caffeine. You thought espresso was stronger, huh?

It's per serving size, einstein.

I have never been to Starbucks (nor will I ever) so this question is real.

Can you get a regular coffee from them? If so, how does it taste?

Well smartass if you read my initial post instead of knee-jerking your reply you would have seen my serving size is 4 expressos not one shot, einstein. Therefore, your one cup of regular joe v. one shot of expresso really has no bearing at all, now does it?

Yes it does. if you drank 4 cups of coffee, you'd have more caffeine in your system than 8 shots of espresso.

Deal with it, you lost.

It's still per serving size (not YOUR serving size). Coffee has significantly more caffeine that espresso. Period.

Relax.

Wrong. It's ounce per ounce and you lose. I don't give a shit about some arbitrary serving size. Now STFU you're ruining my coffee buzz.

" There is more caffeine in a regular cup of coffee than an espresso. "

Sounds like cup for cup to me. Look out, or I shall call you Stephen Hawking.

Who goes into a store and choses to buy a cup of coffee or an espresso? Me. You. Everyone.

No-one says, "HMmmmmm. 6oz coffe or 6oz of espresso?"

It is sold, served, and discussed in serving size.

Remember, I still love you guys.

I hate Starbucks. it is the absolute worst coffee available up here. There are tons of local roasters that make much better coffee than that Starbucks will.
Link Posted: 12/18/2005 9:47:04 PM EDT
Starbucks coffees have a tad more caffiene than the other coffees.
