What do you consider your dog(s)

Family member (allowed inside the house whenever it wants)
Something to make hunting easier
I hate mine, I just have it to make the kids/wife/husband happy.

Family member. She looks after us and we look after her

A relative of mine just got a lab. He treats it llike shit and only has it to retrieve ducks. He asked me what animals my dogs hunt and I said they were just big ole couch potatos. He replied "Why do you have a dog if you can't use it?"

Not a brother sister or mother but higher on the scale than a second cousin

What breed is that?

Our's (Shadow) is a pretty cool dog.

We got her from the SPCA, where she was brought by animal control after being picked up as a stray. As far as we can tell she is part Chow and part something else (maybe Lab?). There are signs that she may have been abused in the past.

She is definitely part of the family. She was housebroken from the start and knows where she is allowed and not.

She is protective of the house and family members.

She is a good companion.

The only reason I wanted a dog was for an early warning bark machine when someone came up the driveway and as a companion for my wife when she runs on the road, but even with those two reasons, I really didn't want a dog.

Then my wife found a 2 year old german shepherd mixed with something red from a lady who was moving into an apartment. She pushed hard for us to adopt him. We did. He is housebroken, can hold it for 12+ hours, doesn't bark except when someone comes up the drive, is relatively smart, listens well, loves to play fetch and race around in the snow, isn't too distracted with neighbor dogs or neighbors in their own yards ... I like him a lot.

Maverick stays inside when we are gone. He's needy, and likes to be around whoever is home. He's a family member.

After we got him my wife was distraught for weeks because he chases our cats. The cats have learned to stay upstairs, where we don't let him go, and he stays in the downstairs living area.

What do you call a Great Pyr that watches the livestock and guards the perimeter? The poll needs another choice.

+1

The only thing that she requires is that I provide her with "cookies" whenever she wants and that I constantly pet her.

He serves no useful purpose other than to add ever increasing amounts of insulation to the carpet, and change the color of black cloth. Family though.

Family dog/security is how I see my dog.

Mongo(aka:jerk)

He sleeps were he wants to wether it be on the sofa(his now)or upstairs in one of the bed rooms but I never make him sleep out side unless he wants to be out there and the basement and laundry room are off limits(many a sock has disappeared) because of him.

But he basically just watches the house and other family members while Im at work or out.
