ROFL - Which is larger: 6 or a half dozen?

Oh boy, where's my popcorn? In all seriousness, I don't think there's a definitive answer. Before somebody goes and posts that page about competitions in the '60s, times have changed. We have new powders, more precise barrel making, better metallurgy, etc.. .308 is supposed to have an edge in the accuracy department because of the shape of the case and burn characteristics of the powder column. I think the great majority of people really wouldn't be able to tell any difference between the 2 out of high-quality barrels and using handloaded or match grade ammunition. MJD

Lahti 20mm. If something's worth doing, it's worth doing right.
Link Posted: 12/16/2005 9:44:23 AM EDT
I like .308

"they" are talking a lot about .338 Lapua being a great round, however, for LE/Mil uses.

.17 10-pump Crossman is pretty reliable for the mice near my bird feeders...

What are you trying to kill?

I is partial too tree-oh-ate.
Link Posted: 12/16/2005 11:47:19 AM EDT
Wow,

At ranges past 700 meters the .408 Cheytac carries more energy than a .50 BMG ball round.

Stays supersonic out past 2000 meters.
Link Posted: 12/16/2005 11:52:37 AM EDT
IMO 308 has much more inherent accuracy than 30-06. So 308 for me.

Marlin lever action with a BSA scope, and shooting accellerators is the best for long range work.

In a military round, I like 6.5x55Swedish

As a non military round, I like 6.5x284

Isn't there some sniper forum where you could get a better answer?
I forgot the URL. It's mainly for US military and law enforcement snipers.

What is the recoil difference between .308 and .30-06?

I've shot .30-06 out of a Mark X Interarms bolt action

Down side is, the barrel is only good for about 1k rounds.
Link Posted: 1/17/2006 9:08:04 PM EDT
.308

since they dont make a 30.06 match round, and its reputed to be less accurate, then you might as well go w/ the .308

go any bigger, you might as well go w/ a .50 BMG
Link Posted: 1/17/2006 9:09:56 PM EDT
I'm still waiting for someone to develop a sniper rifle based on this bad-boy.

actually if you go to the handgun forums you'll hear .45ACP is the best but only when fired from an HK USP or a 1911

As long as its not shot from a glock, it will be okay. The screaming from the hand injury can give away the snipers position.
