A Winchester Classic Safari in 416 Rem Mag? I mean my god man! What the hell you going to hunt with that? Let alone the detached retinas from the recoil! My body aches from just the thought of touching the triggers..

If ammo was cheap Id own one.

High ammo cost means its too expensive to put myself through massive pain

Not on critters that may make you dead! For critters I want to eat, well yea they may be dead but it's nice to still hve some meat on the bones....

I'd try it at least once.
Link Posted: 12/16/2005 3:28:22 AM EDT
i have put 3 rounds thru one, it is impressive. i shot it offhand, i held it real tight and the first shot the scope got me. no cut just a love tap, on my shoulder felt knid of like a punch from a boxer with his hand tapped up.

btw i am not really recoil sensitive

Izzat a rimfire, or something? It sounds kinda puny.

That would make a fine prarie dog rifle. I once had a 458 Win Mag that I only killed prarie dogs and jack rabbits with. It's fun to go on "safari" in the Oregon outback.

Mouse gun - everyone 'round these parts use 'em for that. Of course, the mice are huge, prolly 80 pounds or more, depending on what you're drinkin' and the time of night.

Ultimate CQB weapon. Make sure you get the Surefire BEAST mount for it.

Reminds me of a joke I once read...

What do you call a guy with an African Big Game rifle hunting varmints.....

An ARFCOMer

That round is OK for a carry gun, but it doesn't justify the bulk of a rifle.

I mean he should of went with at least a .458 cal cartridge. HMMMM I wounder if he is professional enough to carry a .416!?! And would a Tacpoint be a good choice for a CQ gun like this?

Well at least he get more than 3 rounds in the gun, Unlike my 460 Wby Mag..

If I put 350 grain Barnes Triple Shocks in it I can get about 2700 ft/sec.

I'm pretty sure It'd be good to go for coyotes and prairie dogs!

An Oregon outback varmint safari sounds like fun.

do you know what grizzly bears are?
Link Posted: 12/16/2005 3:05:17 PM EDT
I shot one of those things once! Well actually twice! Never again! Im 6ft and about 215 lbs. It almost knocked me off of the bench I was shooting at. Call me a pussy but that thing hurt!

I dunno not familiar with that round... will it hurt more than my Sako TRGS 338 Lapua?? If so, I'll try it
Link Posted: 12/17/2005 11:04:45 PM EDT
My old man has a .458 Win. Pre-63 Model 70. He had it trimmed down to just under 6 pounds. It was meant to be carried a lot, shot very little. He's also got the tusks to prove it. He said sighting it in on the bench was the worst part.

It's a dangerous game rifle. For hunting in areas with big animals that need to be stopped fast.

Recoil isn't that bad. Like a 3 1/2 inch 12 gauge but with better trajectory and penetration.

I've shot my old mans rifle 4 times in my life. I don't have a great desire to shoot it again.

I've wanted to shoot a .460 WM for many years, ever since I saw an article where they tested it against another caliber rifle by shooting it from a Radio Flyer wagon and measuring the distance the wagon rolled.

Now that's a big bore. My 416 varmint gun is just for squirrels and maybe wild chickens or large beatles and such.

Ah....come again?

My .338 Lap hits harder than my .416.

Wuss.

The .416 is a man's gun.

Wake up in the morning, place the muzzle near your ear and pull the trigger. Presto - no more ear-wax.

Brace the butt of the rifle against your chin and pull the trigger. Knocks the plaque clean off your teeth.

Use the muzzle blast to singe off whiskers.

Have to be a bit careful when you go to part your hair though, otherwise you end-up with a nasty cowlick.

Is this one of those guns that you fire by plugging you ears and pulling a cord?
Link Posted: 12/18/2005 6:09:31 AM EDT
Get a RUGER in .416 Rigby............it pushes rather than kicks.
