Do you remember Kung Fu? Remember how David Carradine would walk into some old dusty town, and some fat redneck would always shout "What do you want, Chinaman?"  And it would end up with Kung Fu kicking his ass.  But how did everyone know he was Chinese?  Give me a break-he didn't even remotely look Chinese!  But they all knew right off the bat that he was Chinese!!!

Bruce Lee was originally cast to play Kwai Chan Cain.
The studio execs refused to let Bruce play because
they thought he looked TOO oriental.

Hahahahhaha. Man, that's funny. When I lived in California, we had a Chinese neighbor who couldn't drive worth a shit.  My buddy came over to visit me and parked outside on the street. We were looking out the window towards his car when the Chinese lady neighbor comes driving up the road (and I'm thinking, uh-oh..) parks behind my buddy and predictably rear ends him.  The look on my friend's face was priceless.

I think it was because the "townfolk" had an "inside source" perhaps in the local "law enforcement" community who knew the inside track on this minority that nobody else knew about.

My favorite show too, pos hehe

Given the time it took place, and the location (West)...most people with oriental features actually were Chinese.
Who do you think built most of the rail roads?

This matches the information I have read. The series was written for Bruce and he was extremely dissapointed to have been cut out it.

I just finished season one of Kung Fu and expect season 2 for Christmas!

Caine did have a Chinese mother and an American father but I haven't caught anything suggesting his father was 1/4 Chinese.  Maybe in a later episode.

Several of the early episodes are about Caine looking for his brother in the western states.

I've always thought David Carradine was a dead ringer for being 1/2 Chinese.

I was also suprised to see that in the flashbacks to Shaolin Temple the teenage Caine was played by Carradine's brother, the one who does Wild West Tech.

I thought Keith Carradine (Wild West Tech) was David Carradine's son...not brother.

Did some quick research and John Carradine (who I have never heard of but is described as a famous actor) is the father of David and Keith is David's 1/2 brother.....presumably the same dad but he could have taken the Carradine name for career purposes.

Then there's one or two other brothers who act.....i.e., Revenge of the Nerds.

Oops, and I was going to pick on Memoir of a geisha for hiring Chinese to play Japanese women. On American TV, they can't even hire actors from the right continent.

And best Carradine movie? The Long Riders, great seeing so many Carradines togther, I wonder if John was available?

Mr. Ed really talked too????
