Should I build up an AR-15 carbine or get the FN FS2000 when it comes out next year?

AR-15 carbine:

FN F2000 Tactical (FS2000 is slated to come with the 1913 rail):

AR.

I was thinking:
6-position M4 stock
16" Bushmaster barrel
Quad-rail FF handguard
flip-up BUIS
A4 upper
some type of flash suppressor

it should be at least 30" OAL though...

IMHO - AR15

The FN is a bit too "terminator" for me. Its sort of a Power-Ranger looking futuristic deal

Hell, all firearms may look that way in 20 years and thats fine. But for me....for now....its AR15

If you are anywhere near Grand Rapids, just go to Silver Bullet Firearms and pick up a nice Rock River Arms. Forget the Power Ranger shit.

Big ditto on the AR.  I must reluctantly admit, some of the other dastardly folks on this board have me wondering about the P90, though.....I don't know why....I HATE that Power Ranger shit, also.....

I must just be bored.....

How much would a no-ban 16" M4 with chrome lined bore and chamber and 1/7 twist barrel cost?
I was thinking of building another one rather than buying a pre-built, but if the price was right...

With good components....probably around 750 to 850 depending on how you play it.....

If you already have an AR I'd save up for a F2000, those things look hella cool. Although it might be mid to late 2006 before they are available for general sale.

They're supposed to be ready by 1Q or 2Q 06, just after the Shot show.

How many ARs do you presently own?  If it's two or more and you do indeed want an FS2000 then I say save the extra quid till the FS is released.

I wasn't aware Commander Adama issued FN F2000s to his marine details? Did Stargate Command recently issue FN F2000s for its off-world teams and security personnel?

No, in fact in this new season of Stargate, they have switched over to HK. MP7 and G36's

I'm kind of debating the same thing now (well, I'll have the money earmarked for this together in a year or so).  I'm leaning toward the AR, for it's modularity, price, and the fact that I don't already have one.

If I had an AR15, I would definitely get the FS2000.

I guess HK MP7 and G36 airsoft sales will now surge! if people actually watched Season 9 gosh darn it it sucks so badly. I can't even stand the SG-1 crossovers in Atlantis.

I don't recall any company getting into mass producing an MP7, though one small time domestic firm (The Q Project) started work on an MP7 but eventually dropped it several years back.  Some concern over the firm they were contracting to produce it snagging their earlier designs for a G36c and basicly not paying up.  Guess that happens when you deal with certain asian countries which flout US/Int'l patent law.

Any airsoft MP7s are probably either mass produced conversion kits or one off custom kits...which leads me to believe that SG1 is using real guns on the show again.

EDIT: They need to hurry up and cancel SG1.  Only good character they introduced (Vala/Claudio Black) they didn't keep around very long.

I agree - season 9 is very bland. I swore i saw Beau Bridges twitching during the briefings...

The Atlantis folks need to keep better track of their P90s or at least hold onto them better. I still cringe at how slow it is to reload one of those.

What?  So FN sells to civilians, now?  I remember a while back ago when the ban was about to sunset, people were wondering, "will FN sell to us civies?"  The majority consensus was "no".  Glad that is not the case.

FN F2000 duh!

That's if you like the novelty of bullpups and aren't afraid of buying a "untested" weapon. I for one, have lots of faith in FN's engineering capabilties, and love the concept of bullpup assault rifles...

Where does one go to pre-order these babies again? Don't want to be caught with my pants down like i was for the Xbox 360

Edit: WTF IS THAT VERTICAL GRIP?! Gah!

Impact Guns is one of the companies taking pre-orders on them.

As to the verticle grip, if it works and it looks stupid it just looks stupid and works.  I don't much see the point of a verticle grip on an FS2000 anyway because the front handguard is likely to heat up a lot slower than on an AR.  That's the main reason I like verti grips.

Why spend all that $ on a gay looking F2000? So many better choices if your AR stable is filled out already like the FAL, M1A, M1 Garand, AK's, etc. What about a precision heavy caliber bolt gun?

The civilian FS2000 will be similar to the F2000 Tactical, except it won't have the vertical grip. I think that portion is modular anyhow. You can swap that part out for a M203 or the VFG or something else.

The FS2000 will have the 1913 rail on top w/ included BUIS. If I posted the F2000 you'd see the bulky integrated optics and that isn't part of the FS2000.

I really really really want an F2000, but I’ve decided to pimp out my AR15 first. First up is a new ARM-R rail (already ordered), then an Aimpoint ML3 and LaRue mount (should be able to order those this weekend), then a gas piston conversion from Leitner-Wise (hopefully I can send it in at the end of January or in February). Lastly, I’ll put a Surefire light on it. Then I’ll get the F2000.

If you've already got an AR15 and it's not configured how you'd like yet, I'd do that first then get the F2000. If you've already got a high speed low drag AR15, get the F2000. I don't like buying multiple guns of the same exact make,  model, and caliber.

FS2000:

1). It takes AR-15 mags and .223/5.56 ammo - commonly available now
2). It's a fully ambidextrous bullpup rifle, cases eject to the front
3). 16" barrel with 1/7 twist
4). 1913 rail with flip-up BUIS
5). modular front end for what appears to be optional rails and VFG - not really my cup of tea but some people love VFGs...
6). Compact size, about 28" OAL from muzzle to stock. It's shorter than a 16" AR/M4 carbine. I think I'll even have to register it as a pistol in MI.
7). Short stroke piston operated
8). P90 styling

Because that is what people will pay.

I dont get the too much money people. If its somthing that you cant afford, then dont fret and move on. I dont hear you complaining about the price of Double rifles, high end hunting rifles, good trap guns etc. All mentioned can be found for many times what this will go for. I am by far not  $$ rich and will have to save to afford one after breaking my piggy bank for the p90. But I also understand that some things cost more then others and if I choose to have one I need to work harder to get it.  Hell I am saving for a double that will cost me nearly $10,000. Still a few years out but it will happen. Its just money.

Its all reletive..even in AR's......I remember when a  brand new SP1 could be had for 425.00, then that ban hit and over night the same rifle was 1,800!!!(I even saw one for 2200) and for all of us poor working stiffs that is a lump of money. The same SP1 is still now 900-1200 and a LE colt is 1500. All the neet stuff is high, its just the way it is......it takes longer to save for one now ,and its a bigger decision on which one to buy, but the bottom line is that they arent really ever going to get dirt cheap again. That went the way of 1.00 a gallon gasoline.

It looks like a slightly different version of the VFG, it must replace the front modular panels.
It seems like a lot of people are interested in the FS2000.

Why are there rails on the sides of the VFG?
