I would like some basic info, how accurate is it? How is the recoil?  Thanks.

Big5, if they are located in Texas, usually has sales on the M48 Mauser.

Great gun, cheap surplus ammo, fun to shoot, but I like the Mosen Nagent better.

I bought a new gun from Coles distributing on the web for $107.00 delivered. I've only put about 10 shot thru the gun for a function check and it is a nice shooter. When Century arms was having a sale, I bought a case of Turkish 8mm ammo for $60.00 delivered but regular price is $65.oo delivered. A lot of guys are saying that the Turk ammo is loaded very hot-and its corrosive, but for $60.00 its well worth the extra cleaning troubles. Bottom line, I have a new gun (even if its 50 years old) and a case of ammo and only have $167.00 invested. Targets beware 'cause the Yugo is on the loose!

Thanks for the info.  I just sent away for my c&r packet and I ordered a m48.  It sounds like a real pleasure, hopefully I don't get screwed like I did on my mosin.   Of course I didn't buy the m48 from wholesale guns n' ammo so it should be okay.

This is the board to ask and find info on the older mil-surplus firearms.

Scroll down to the Mauser board and ask your questions.
I bought a Yugo M-48 from Big-5 Sporting goods for $139.00, all matching numbers, like new. Cleaned it up, bought some surplus 8mm from Eric the Ammoman, shot it no problems. At 100 yards offhand it groups (mine does) at 2 inches, no sight adjustments made. There is no real kick (of course I don't think that a 12 gauge shooting 3 inch magnum slugs has much of a kick either) to speak of, just make sure that you clean it up with a 50/50 mixture of amonia and water after shooting, that older mil-surplus ammo is quite corossive.

It's great gun but I do like my 98K a lot better maybe it's just that it was a gift and it was taken by my grandfather from the WWII battlefield.

i agree tayous, I like the 98k better also because on the Yugo's it seeem to have a "hump". i don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but it looks weird.

One question. Does Big5 have a website??

I have never heard of cleaning with ammonia and water, can anyone enlighten me on this.  Do you do this after normal solvent, before, in between?  Do you apply lots of gun oil in the end?

I have never cleaned a gun after using corrosive ammo because I have never shot any ammo that was corrosive that I knew of.

8mm ammo getting tough to find soon?  Ack, say it isn't so.  What about all the boys with 8mm 1919's...  What are they going to do? prob .308 Damn,  I was hoping to get one in the next year or two.
