Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - AR-15 Barrel & Upper Receiver Markings

I looking at the barrels on my AR-15's and found
one that is marked "SS" 5.56. The barrel is not
stainless steel, at least a magnet sticks to it
(but not to my Mini-30 Stainless). The barrel is
16". Also at gun shows I see at least 5 upper
receivers with a little symbol cast in the
carry handle and some without any markings. Anyone ever researched these to find out the
actual manufacturer.
