Recently a friend came home on leave from Afghanistan. He is married with 4 children (one of who he saw for the first time last week)

I had the honor of arranging flowers stateside for one of his guys KIA in a firefight a few months ago.

(I'll admit I'm pulling the heart strings here, but its real life. ANd I have a devious purpose in mind)

Talking with him yesterday, he mentioned wanting to convert his A1 into the M4 configuation he currently uses. He returns to the 'stan 15-Nov and anticipates return March 2006.

In his absense, I'd like to convert his rifle, and have it ready for suprise presentation on his return.

I'm willing to contribute some serious coin to make this happen, but wanted to ask y'all's participation.

I'll need the following parts:

M4 barrel (w/ fh)
Picatinny gas block
Rail handguards with panel covers (free float style)
Rock River trigger / other decent trigger
CAR buttstock (collapsing - new style)  - thanx srt205
Aimpoint / Eotech red dot thanx John F
Flattop receiver
Flip up iron rear sight thanx John F
Flip up iron front sight

If you have any of these parts, and would like to donate, that would be freaking outstanding.

If you need to get SOME money for your parts (but are willing to take a little bit of a loss to make this a reality) please email me with sale offers.

(The A1 parts (NOT including lower receiver) *** MAY ***  be available for trade / sale. Supposedly its a 25-30 y.o. rifle. They are all Colt as I understand it)

Thanx.

Personally, I think you should leave the A1 rifle as is.  A 30 year old rifle has history, regardless of whether or not it has seen combat.  Besides, all else you would need is a new lower and a LPK to build a new rifle.  I vote build a new rifle.  If this is agreeable, IM me and there's a $40 MO coming your way towards a new lower.

I agree the lowers are very cheap right now why not just start over and save a older rifle.

That's not a bad idea. He suggested converting his rifle.

OK, new lower, leave A1 as is.

In fact, I got a good idea how to do it.....

More on that later.

Thank you. That's the cool part about this rifle - I'll get to tell him about all the people he never met that made this happen because of their grattitude.

Say tuned here for pics and updates.

Tagged. I don't have any parts, but as soon as I can scrape some $$$, I'll kick in.

Garandman, it's likely you'll have some cash left over after this. If you do, think ammo for him.

Getting kind of late but why not just get a new rifle? Especially if the A1 is an original firearm.

Be more than happy to help with a Bushy or RRA M4 "at cost."

Aug -

Thanx for the offer.

As I stated in IM, the recipient expressed a preference for specific things, and I'd then have to reconfigure the purchased rifle anyway. Part of the joy of this project is getting to build the rifle, and tell him about all the people who had a part in it.

Further, cash and parts contributions have already begun, and I'd have to return all that stuff, as well as contacting manufacturers, etc.

But its a great offer, and I thank you for it.
