Actually David, Ive donated my time to run IDPA matches, teach concealled carry and defensive pistol classes all of which the club makes money on.  Their costs?--- FREE.  I even rented a bobcat and spent one of my rare free days improving a back stop I thought was too low.  Cost to the club?  ZERO.  Since Ive done more than my share of work and range improvement, I'll keep my 10K.

Let's see this idiot attempt to explain why "his" gun club thinks its members shouldn't uphold the 2nd amendment."

While this issue has little impact on where I shoot or what I shoot, I see it as important as writing letters to congress.  Individually, our efforts are small, but lots of little letters make a difference.  Fighting this fight in a small club with its $25/year membership costs means little in the antigun battle, but its funny how quickly the next club will use our clubs ban as an excuse to do in the next town over...we all know how this leds.

Incidentially, I have about 30 members promising to attend in support of repealling the FA ban.  Im hoping to get about 50-60.  Largest turn out we've had in 2 years is 100 at the Thanksgiving BBQ/party, usually there are only 30 guys at the monthly mtgs.

First off this all started from mysterious neighbors who built their homes knowing a gun range was close complaining to someone.

The presidents statements to me were not actual club rules - military stuff is OK (well some), SA belt feds are OK, but FA is banned.

THe concern is the club will lose its lease from the Indians if there are complaints. So its better to do the wrong thing which is ineffective and doesnt address the problem (noise) so you can say you did something, than try to actually fix something.

Well as often is the case I had 5 supporters with a total of 16 members at the meeting.

I presented my piece - divide and conquer = BAD; 2nd amendment important; preventing noise was in no way impacted by banning FA's.  We might hang together, but we will certainly hang seperately.  Your ban on FA did nothing to address the noise issue, other than restrict the lawfull expression of the second amendment.

The responses.

Really?  Then why am I here?

"Im not ready to hang."  My answer:  Me either, not am I willing to compromise the rights I and males OF EVERY GENERATION and last 2 generations of females of my family fought, died, bled, and otherwise suffered for defending.  But if you feel like selling your rights a piece at a time feel free, but I call that cowardly.  If youre weak and stupid enough to sell your morals/beliefs/rights when it gets tough to ensure them then you dont deserve them.

This got ugly since the original 'hangee' had never served anything other than his own ass.  The inevitable chest pounding ensued - "I served/was in/got this medal for..."

My answer was "Great, my dicks bigger than yours...How about recalling that Oath you took - Remember?  To protect and defend the constitution...."  Oh yeah, as long as my personal ass isnt on the line or the enemy(s) arent specifically targeting ME, it doesnt apply."  "Chickenshit anyway you slice it, gentlemen."

We then moved onto greater logic...

Well, since your SA belt feds are not prohibited, but might cause a problem, please dont shoot them.  Followed by we'll lets try this NO FA rule for a while and see if we get no complaints.

In effect, dont shoot your allowed firearm and when we get no complaints then we can say it worked.

So then I said that I could go out and blast with a SA whatever - mag or belt fed and still generate complaints.  Answer:  But why would you do that?  How about because your too fucking stupid to see how dumb your new rule is.

When asked what the plan will be if there are complaints resulting from other firearms being used, the answer was maybe we'll have to look at banning them.  

What about rapid fire?  If we get a complaint, then maybe that will go too.

Last ditch effort was to ask to put a paragraph in the news letter requesting all members either show up to vote or turn in a proxy vote to one of the club officers on the FA issue.  The issue would be decided by a simple majority of the membership.

The pres's answer - No, we're not doing that.

So we (a fellow conspirator and I)have settled on a plan with the following premises...

1. Gun clubs get closed as rural becomes suburban - its like growing older.  Our club has short life span.
2. Having a few bastards play God aint right.
3. We need to push them some more.

Answer: a garand match with multiple courses of rapid fire.  Generate a complaint.  See what the lords decide then - defend garands or quit then too.

Effectively stack the deck next meeting.  Im persanlly going to spring for 10 new members and pretty much tell my other 'buds' no more reloading, welding, guncoating, fixing, gratis help with JACK SHIT if its GUN related, if your ass isnt there at the next meeting.  Ive tried being nice, Ive tried reason, Ive tried democracy without manipulation.  The gloves are off!

Unfortunitely, no proxy voting... otherwise Id spring for several internet memberships....

If you live in Oklahoma or are willing to drive, I'll buy your membership if you'll be at the next meeting to vote this silly shit away.

WE WON!  The membership (silent majority) finally got the word and became pissed.  Last night the Ban on FA was overturned be the membership.

It also turns out under OK statue that ranges cant be closed or restricted for noise complaints unless the decibel level exceeds 150 at the property line - it doesnt at ours....

Congratulations on the victory.    I hope your club president chokes on it.
