Hrmm, If I restricted internet access....it would go something like this.

"Self"..."yes?"...."Restrict your internet access"...."Ok...boss says no more internet"...."Ok."

[smile]

Heh, I'm the System Admin. for our offices here, so no problems surfing when wanted.

If you wouldn't mind, just drop me a line here saying if you can surf the web while at work.  Doesn't matter your working situation:  self imployed, work from home, sitting at the bosses desk, etc.

I'm laid off right now - well just rounded up a few small projects - and I see many folks post during working hours, saying 'I'm posting from work' etc.

That amazes me that you could surf while on the company's dime.

I work construction, and by our company policy we are not even allowed to carry a cell phone while working.  We can carry a phone in our lunch pail, and use it during break or lunch.  I have personally seen a guy fired for using his phone at the wrong time.  I was on a ladder and saw him head for the mech room to hide, and the Manpower Guru from the shop was about 40 feet behind him - it just wasn't his day.

Thanks.

IBSGPIBTP - In before some guy posts in before the poll

There won't be no stinkin' poll.

Yep,  I'm a college professor.

I do tech support for the largest domain registrar.. So seeming that we have to trouble shoot customers sites, and the fact that we do not have restrictions on what kind of sites that customers can host, the company cannot put a filter on the internet that we are on all day.

Shortened version.... Yes

I can, as long as it's "for a reasonable amount of time related to the current work load".

+1

Unfortunately they just this week restricted access to any gun related web sites.

A typical 12 hour tour includes about 9 hours on surfing for me...
It's so bad I think I've developed tendonitis in my mouse-hand....

I surf whenever I can as it's not really frowned on (except for porn) but generally I just wait until I get home.

I can, but I surf tech sites (like tomshardware.com), The Onion or Drudge.  I do that on my breaks.

If we've got something that we need support for, the internet is used to hunt down a referance or support phone number.

I don't surf arfcom at work.

Depending on the day I sometimes spend a lot of time on the phone... yes I can talk and surf at the same time.

I'm the IT dept in my small company so I have no problems with access.  'Net access is required for all the work we do here anyway.

ETA:  I'm still at my workplace at the present time.

Hell yes!

I'm a Web Administrator and can do pretty much whatever I want.  My job inherently creates time gaps where I'm waiting a minute or three for files to copy, machines to reboot, etc. and I have full administrative access to most of the machines.

I'm doing a little work with a friend of mine during the evenings for about a week.

I carried my phone, and EVEN ANSWERED IT while on the company dime!  Man, life is good.    HAHA!

I'm amazed at the answers.  Frankly, I didn't even think about folks who worked on the computers or systems.

Interesting.

Thanks, folks.

Every place I've worked, the supervisor above me never had a problem, but it was officially verboten.
