Yes, its the Fair Lakes Dicks. Why I need to rescue the rifle from an evil place. |

Country Bling!
Hell yeah, get it, nice rifle for bear country. |

Just put a lawn chair out in front of the store and take a nap to pass the time. |

Two quotes from Leverguns.com come to mind: Can you trust a man that calls himself a rifleman but does not own at least one levergun? and If a 45-70 won't do it, don't go! Does that help?! Disclaimer: Another gratuitous post with a linkie to the Leverguns web site, because it's the best damn forum for levergun aficionados on the Internet. Nice guys. Great articles. Stop by a visit a spell, we'd love to have you! |
ANY firearm will do that with a suitable bore obstruction. Beware the bore obstruction! |

I can't I'm buying the same rifle |
It's not a .50 cal and it isn't semi automatic, so the libtards will probably overlook it for the next ban (if you got it case hardened and dinged up the wood a little it would be so innocuous you could even take it to your next DU convention).
Oh, you said why you shouldn't buy it. Nevermind. |
I bought it but NICS delayed me! I always get delayed because I have a common name. But usually it is only 30 minutes. I waited an hour and then left. I'm waiting for a call. |
Too bling, no saddle ring. |
I have me an early 60's Marlin levergun in .35 remington. Its my short range thumper. I inherited it from my grandfather.
Get it. I have had one with porting and one without. They are much better without. (Better groups)
Buy a pumo shotgun with rifle sights. You'll get more use and accuracy out of it.
Already have two. |
buy it...i love my marlin....given mine is a 30-30 but still it has never failed me and is one of the best brush guns ever
Put down the crack pipe! That weapon is GORGEOUS! Buy it! |
I had a buddy who KB'd his, too, but it was because he accidentally used pistol powder rather than rifle powder. Similar results. |

Because you live in Virginia? What are you going to use it on? 140lb white tail (maybe?) |
I have one in .444 you won't find a better handling, sweeter shooting rifle.
You'll always regret not buying it. |

Thank you thank you. Just popped her cherry at the NRA range. 45-70 indoors is fun Shoots like a dream. I am grinning like I just got laid. |
If you ever want to scope your lever action, use a straight tube like Phil here. My 1895 has a 1-4x Kahles. It's a perfect combination of look and function. |
I'm still trying to convince Santa to bring me a 50-140. I already have a Shiloh No. 2 in 45-70 and an original Marlin 1895 in 38-55.
There's just something satisfying about setting up next to the SKS/Shotgun blaster punks, no offense meant to members of this board , and popping a cap on 65 gr of FF. It give a new meaning to "doping the wind". |
VERY well done--I'm envious. Very envious. <----green-faced, but happy for you, beekeeper
I've got a 1970's version of the same gun, it's awesome. You're gonna love it.
I have one of these, it's sweet! |
LOL ... My old 1895 Marlin will shoot 1.5 inch 3 shot groups, and absolutely HAMMER whatever it hits. |
The 1895s are very good rifles. There is a certain nich nothing fills quite like the 45-70 Guide Gun, it is one of the most useful rifles ever built.

FYI DO NOT BUY BUFFALO BORE AMMO,,, I have a stainless GG in 45/70 just in case the zoo has a jailbreak or I finaly go on the hog hunt. Anyway I heard about how Buffalo Bore Ammo was the hottest factory ammo you can find. Well its hot alright, I bought a couple boxes of 430 grain LFN rated at 1925 FPS. The first two shots about jarred my fillings out and the 3rd shot locked up the rifle. I mailed it to Marlin and they did fix it BUT and I called to verify this, they recomend NOT using this ammo in thier rifles because it exceeds SAMI specs.
I emailed Buffalo Bore about it since it says right on thier ammo box that its OK for this rifle. I got a song and dance. They wont refund my $$ and Im not going to use it. Ill take Marlins word over a third party ammo mfg. Ill stick with the Remi Express 405Gr stuff. |
I know this is a Marlin fest but someday an 86 Winchester in 45-70 is on my list.
Yeah prone with the 45-70 is bad ju-ju, you need to have it up snug and give a little. And when you are shooting prone the only thing available to give a little are your shoulder bones and soft tissues. |
I absolutely love our Marlin Guide Gun. .45-70 is fun and since my dad dislocated his shoulder it knocks him around too much to be used often. More gun for me!
Thanks for the tip. I was thinking more that the most powerfull I would put through it would be:
Which does not sound near as bad as the stuff you just described. But for the most part I am just going to shoot "regular" loads. |

Now make sure you are leaning way forward when you shoot that girl off a bench
1895cb owner - love it, shoot it, reload for it. |

Ahh. Bull F'ing Shit. That Marlin buttplate is not the traditional crescent killer. A hot loads in a rifle with that crescent metal buttplate is a bitch but I've shot many a hot load(300 grains @ 1900fps) through mine and the recoil is less than high brass #4's out of my Rem870. Get a solid hit on a deer with a .45-70 and they are going only one direction. Down. Get some 300 grain 'Express' factory loads and go hunting. Be careful that the POI for 405 && 300 grain loads are different. Pick your load. Zero your rifle. Go hunting. Pick your shots. Be happy. wganz ¶ |
