Heinlein's "Stranger in a Strange Land", following it up with "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress", then it's off to the land of "1984" and a lighthearted step over to the world of Douglas Adams for "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency".

I think in that order.  I buy several books at a time as I hate being without something new to read.

I heartily enjoyed each one of those!

I'm reading 1776 right now by David McCullough. It's a little dry, but very interesting, especially since I haven't covered Revolution War history since high school. Good refresher, and Washington was THE MAN.

Yeah, I just recently finished it on audio-cd ... Don't forget Nathaniel Greene too ...  Washington was a butt kicker but N.G. was right there with him.

I recently finished His Excellency: George Washington (on audio CD) and want to get started on 1776 soon.  But in between, I just finished Unintended Consequences and started Rainbow Six while intermittently reading through The Federalist Papers.

And I am NOT much of a reader.  I just happened to get on a kick recently.  My last major reading kick was almost 20 years ago with Douglas Adams' books.

I need to get my nose in the Federalist Papers myself. Never covered them in high school OR college.

Cartridge Handguns of the Japanese Military.  THE definative reference; excellent book.
Himmler's Crusade.  The story of Dr. Ernst Schafer and the SS Ahnenerbe's 1939 expedition to Tibet.
God's Warriors.  The Crusades; Christendom vs islam.

Man! Foul! It SOUNDED like you were just interested in what people here were currently reading - NOT that you were looking for SUGGESTIONS what to read NEXT.The FORMER topic would be a "9" - this is just maybe a 4 or 5, depending upon the suggestions that crop up.

I doubt you'd be interested in Cellular and Molecular Immunology or Fats that Heal, Fats that Kill for basic "stress reduction" I did start re-reading The Salmon of Doubt (Douglas Adams - HHGTTG author).

Sorry, not much into the kind of reading YOU are talking about for a while, except when Laurrel K. Hamilton comes up w/something.

My current read is John Grisham's The Chamber.  I am a bookworm.  I usually read fiction, but a really good non-fiction read is Cold Zero, by Agent Christopher Whitcomb.

The Coming of the Third Reich

Somewhat dry, but a fascinating look at the elements in Germany that led to the rise of National Socialism.

Cool, I'm reading Soldat.

Check out Tigers in the Mud by Otto Carius and Panzerjaeger (can't remember his name).  Pretty good idea of the war through their eyes.  Of course there is a whole lot of "If we had the Amis supply system we could have won" and crap like that, and Carius makes some interesting observations on the treatment of vets in post-war Germany.

I just finished Roberts Ridge.  A pretty good story on the fight on top of Takhur Gar in the Shah i Kot valley in Afghanistan during Operation Anaconda.  This was the one with the SEAL that fell/jumped out of the Chinook and was killed/executed by the Taliban or Chechens.
After reading that I went back to None Braver, which was a narrative of PJ/CCT/STS operations in Afghanistan.  It had a section on the battle in there, and with its focus on PJs gave pretty account of the battle, but not as in depth as above.
That got me back to the Anaconda section of Not A Good Day To Die, which was a history of the Anaconda operation.
Between those three, you can get a pretty good view of Anaconda and see how truly screwed up it was.
Masters of Chaos was also a pretty good SF narrative on SF operations recently.

Just finished one on the U.S. Explrong Expedition of the mid 1830s, can't recall the title, though.

History of the World, Part One.

No, that's not it.

The Story of Civilization: Part 1  Our Oriental Heritage by Will Durant. First printed in 1935. I have the 1954 edition. It starts out with Neolithic man and proceeds to the early civilizations of the Near East, i.e. Egypt, Sumeria, Babylonia, Assyria, Judea, etc. Then proceeds to talk about India, then China and Japan. It's written is such a way I wish I had all 8 volumes concluding with France's Louis XIV.

I must have the only copy of the Kama Sutra in the world with no pictures.  I've been CHEATED!!!

On my list, though, are a couple of volumes that everyone should read.

The Prince, Machiavelli
The Art Of War, Sun Tzu (And maybe Sun Pin)
How to Win Friends and Influence People
PR!
The Holy Bible (It's not just for atheists anymore!)
Selling to the Affluent (Absolute must-read for everyone!!! You will NOT be disappointed)
True Odds from Silverlake Press
Sleight of Hand
Great Issues in American History From Reconstruction to the Present Day
Secret Knowledge of Water
Domination and the Arts of Resistance
Primary Preventative Dentistry
How to Cook Everything

I got a million of em.  I love reading, it's one of my top three favorite things to do in the whole world.  If I could take ten years and live in a library and read, read, read, I'd do it in a heartbeat.  The collective knowledge of the entire human race is available to us these days.  Imagine Alexander standing at the top of the known world, with the decision on what to do with his Empire.  What did he do?  He built libraries.  Bless his heart.

sell that book and get the one with pictures.  I hate to read so i need to look at pictures.

Guess I should do this too.  I'm pretty familiar with New Testament but a lot of the Old Testament stuff is harder for me to understand.
