It is really a matter of point of view. If you are about to be on the recveiving end of an AR15/M16 you would think it the ugliest, meanest, nastiest looking thing you ever saw. If you are on the sending end, it is truly a thing of beauty. The M16/AR15 looks exactly like what it is supposed to be. A weapon designed to kill. Preferably up close and personal. You look at it and you know exactly what it is for. It is not primarily a hunting or target shooting rifle. It is a military weapon and all that it implies. An M1 Garand, '03 Springfield or a Mauser is almost a work of art. The M16 is a rifle stripped of all pretenses of what it's primary purpose is. You can hang a Mauser/Garand/'03 Springfield etc on the wall and appreciate a sense of design and maybe even beauty in it. They look great when used in parades and honor guard units. When you look at an M16 it has no real elegance to it outside of what it is designed to do. They don't look great when carried on the shoulder and don't function well in drill teams. So keep your wife. She is right and probalby too good for you. Remember those three little words that are the basis of all happy marriages. "Your right dear". |

You must post photos of your AR. It is possible that it is in fact ugly. I do not care for all the stuffhanging off of the front handguard and the vertical grips etc... I just like an AR the way they looked long ago. Post pics and we can decide the beauty or lack there of of your rifle.

Not always. I didn't have a problem AT ALL with all the spiders in my garage. I kept seeing them in their webs, thinking "they'll keep the insect population down". When I started seeing large egg sacs in all the webs, I figured "oh well, spiders have to live too" and let them be. Then I looked a little closer one day, and realized that I had DOZENS of BLACK WIDOWS infesting my garage, with millions of black widow offspring ready to hatch !!!  In that case, greater understanding led to greater fear. Ignorance was truly bliss. Not really that relevant, but I though I'd share because I know how much the Doc enjoys stories of spiders
