Add "Google" search engine to the anti-gun crowd.  If you are so inclined, let them know your displeasure if you.

I sell Dillon loading presses through my website [url]www.eguns.com[/url] .  That is all I sell.  I am not an FFL and do not trade at all in firearms.  I was trying to use Google's AdWords ads to see if I can increase my business.  This is the response I got from them

"...please know that we do not allow advertisements for the sale of guns or related products."

This was a direct mail from their support team when I inquired why I had not received a confirmation.  They allow porno, but not loading presses?

That is one of the best search engines out there.


Now I've gotta find a new favorite.

I'm not sure what you/they mean.  I get firearm related sites such as gunbroker, Duncan's Gun Shop, etc... when I do searches and they relate directly to the sale of firearms and firearm related equipment.  Explain more please.

Remeber that may of these places, Google, PayPal, etc don't allow the trading of firearms using their resources for ONE reason and ONE reason only:

LIABILITY.

Let's not forget where the rela attention belongs...on Brady and Co and all the leftylibs who are after out rights and smearing the firearms and it's community.

Places such as Lowes and others that take the DING DONG stance about gun saftey and such deserve the protest.  

Otherwise, many of these places are just fallout examples of the leftylibs.  This isn't much different that a Shoes Required by a business in order to protect themselves.

Focus attentions at the source...not he symptoms.

I just did a search on "gun" and they returned many links, including e-gun.net and web-links to  gun stores.

Maybe [url]www.e-gun.net[/url] paid them off to de-list other sites.

That's unfortunate about Google, as it's system of rating sites (judging by number of links to a site rather than searching for instances of key words) is fairly revolutionary and powerful.  I really haven't found any other single search that matches it (not counting meta-searches, which are sort of a shotgun approach).  

I'm with zazou that it's far more likely a liability issue.  Tech people usually have to answer to the lawyers, and lawyers tend to be a lot that will play it safe rather than risk a lawsuit.

Can anyone come up with a single search engine (no metasearches) that beats Google?

Google will return "gun" results just like anything else.  The issue is that they won't allow people to buy advertising about firearm products (so you'd get a sponsored link up at the top of any search with "gun" in it).

Interesting.  I type in "Bulldawg's Firearms Page" and get 19 results - All of them pointing to my website or a site with my link.

Right.  It searches them just fine.  In fact, it's great at searches.  What they won't do is accept money for search placement.  Try something like "car".  A sponsored link will appear above the search results, which is some pretty powerful advertising (because you're getting to target people who are looking for something to do with your product).  However try "gun".  No sponsored links.  Still works great as a search engine, they just won't allow themselves to be an advertising tool for firearms products (presumably to cover their rear, in the legal sense).

As an aside, let me put in a vote of confidence for Chad at eguns-com.  I bought some dillon equiptment from him and was 100% satisfied.  Fast delivery, put up with my odd-ball requests and was over-all very helpful.

If you need dillon stuff, he is the man to see, and at a discount to boot.

Not connected at all with them, just one happy customer.

Remember, the ads they are refusing are not for guns.  They are for reloading presses.  There is no liability there.  You are probably right, that it comes from a liability position.  But, companies will continue to take the easy way out and just listen to their dumb lawyers unless they get feedback.  A lot of it!  It doesn't matter if the anti-gun position is from laziness or intent.  They have that position.  They need to hear about it, and hear a lot.   Google's AdWords Terms and Conditions also makes no mention of this restriction at all.  BTW, PayPal seems to have no problem handling transactions for reloading presses.

Speaking of search engines... I need to vent.

I do a lot of my searches via the address line in IE5.  Type a ? then what you search for.  

Well, a few days ago some damn site must have screwed with something in my work pc because instead of going to altavista (where I told ie to use), it now goes to one of two search engines.  www.websearch123.com or www.yoursearch.org.  

I've searched the registry and couldn't find anything.  Deleted cookies, uninstalled ie5 and reinstalled.  etc, no luck.  IE says it will use altavista for my autosearch but these bastards did something.  Arrrg.  

I've posted a tech support help question at microsoft and I'm awaiting a reply.   I've searched deja (google) [url]groups.google.com/groups?as_q=websearch123[/url]
and a few other people have the same problem as I do.  No solutions yet.  

I did notice that when I do a search, it goes to auto.search.msn.com/response.asp    

Thanks for reading.   I'd shoot my pc right now if guns were legal in DC.  [:D]

Update:  Some of you may have seen my ad running on google.com even though I was complaining about them being anti-gun.  I don't think that they honestly know that the ad is running.  Their ad system is automated and I finally got the confirmation email I needed to activate my account with them so I went and activated it and my ad started immediately running.  After it started running, I received an email reply from them confirming that their policy was correct and that they had the right of editorial freedom to not allow certain ads.  So,as far as I know, they have not changed the policy (their policy is not to accept paid advertising for firearms or firearms related items, though this policy is not on their web page anywhere, it was clearly spelled out to me by email).  Their free search engine stuff is not firearms restricted, just the paid ads.  My ad for Dillon presses is running because their automated system has no oversight, as it appears.
