I feel your pain man..2 years ago I went to the doctor with what I thought was the flu and they diagnosed me with leukemia..talk about shocking. You just have to take one day at a time and do the treatments.
Being sick a few days a week because of chemo/radiation is not fun but it's the best science has to offer and it does work. Try to stay active as possible and listen to your doctor. |
Prayers to you and your family. I'd suggest doing the chemo ASAP. Any chance is better than no chance.
Remember the Alamo, and God Bless Texas... |
My best wishes to you and yours. Take care my friend and get a second opinion.

Who's report will you belive, the report of the LORD or the report of the world......belive the LORD....
Prayes are sent and I am sorry to hear of the situation. Not sure of treatments. My mother inlaw is a surviver of breast cancer. She did the routine treatments.
I have faith that this can be beaten--may the peace of God reign in your life!
Trust in the Lord, fear Him alone. If it were me in this situation I would want (like you ) to try any and all alternative means to beat this. So, I tell you about homeopathic herbal remedies and check out The Power Mall There is also a great talk show on GCN Live called the power hour. all the best to you man... |
Another DO THE CHEMO and stay positive!!!!!
Depending on the cancer, chemo isn't as ragingly awful as it used to be.....but either way, DO IT!!!! Best of luck and best of wishes!!!! Moon |
not if you want a chance to live... do the chemo, and get better.. |

I was diagnosed with leukemia a year ago. It is still watch and wait for me. My White Blood Cell count was 21,000 in 11/04. A normal count is between 3,000 and 10,800. I started taking large doses of green tea extract in 1/05 and my WBC did not increase at my 3/05 doctor's visit. My WBC last month had went down to 18,700. I don't know if the Green Tea Extract (purchased at Wal-Mart) is helping me. I started drinking incredibly PURE water. No more tap. I take two Milk Thistle capsules daily also. My daily mg of Green Tea Extract is 3780. Last but not least I have increased my prayers 3x daily. My prayers are with you, Scalawag. Much good advice here at AR15.com. My faith in doctors over the years has waned, BUT if there is chemo in my future-----I will take it. God Bless You and Yours.

Very sorry to hear this....if you have any concerns or doubts about your doctors, please contact M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston:
www.mdanderson.org/ They, and Sloan Kettering in NYC, are the top 2 cancer centers in the country. Good luck and God speed! HH |
Get the strongest Chemo that you can handle. Get the mindset that you can beat the hell out of it. YOU CAN DO IT!!!! I am pulling for you bud, keep us posted.
If it were me, i'd take the most aggressive chemo treatment they can throw out.
Beat it. If you don't, you went out swinging. That's a pretty good legacy. |
This bears repeating...chemo, in many instances, can be pretty well tolerated by the body. My mother-in-law is presently taking chemo and it does sap her energy to a small degree...now she has to take a nap for .5-1 hour in the afternoon. Not a bad price to pay. I generally view siestas as a good idea anyway... It would not be good to just assume that your chemo will kick the sh*t out of you! |
Prayers sent for everyone here.
Folks, you need to get poked and probed by the doc every year (or whatever they recommend). All 4 of my grandparents died from cancer. Mother's side: 1 uterine, 1 liver. Father's side: 1 colon, 1 breast. My father is 2 years post TX for colon cancer. My mother is cancer free. I'm about as prone for cancer as a guy can get. |
I think some of the newer chemo treatments don't make you as sick as they used to
Good Luck |
So sorry to hear that . Hang in there and keeps us updated as best you can. Prayers for you my commradd. WarDawg

Scalawag - If Lance Armstrong can make a comeback, why not you? Fight, fight, fight! I'll throw my prayers in for good measure.
Keep a positive attitude and get a second opinion. A second opinion never hurts. A lot of insurance companies will pay for the second doctor.
Talk to people that have the same cancer as you and learn from their experiences. The treatment is your decision. I'm sure you'll do what is best for you. Love your family and friends. They'll be there for you. Like it has been said before., "it's beatable". Colt_SBR |

I'm a 15 year survivor of a stage 4 lymphoma. Lung, brain, pericardium, bone marrow. Be tough and get a support network. Prayers...
YOU ARE GOING INTO BATTLE! A WARRIOR IS THE WEAPON, THE RIFLE IS A TOOL! A WARRIOR IS THE WEAPON, CHEMO IS A TOOL! BE A WARRIOR! www.laf.org |

There is some seriously cool stuff they are coming up with for treatment these days. Imagine a virus, that has been genetically modified with a strand of your DNA from a cancer sample they collected from you. They then inject your body with this virus, it seeks out, and orders the self destruction of every cell in your body that's a match. Each time reproducing more of the virus. It ignores non-cancerous cells, since they are not a match. After the cancer is gone, the virus has no more appropriate hosts and just dies off.
Sound like science fiction? It's not - it's very real and has already been developed for some types of cancers - with success that boarders on the "M" word. May not be developed for yours yet - and yours may be a LOT harder than the ones they developed it for, you'll have to check. (Here's a start, first hit from a google search, no endorsement, just something to help you start your search: www.tulane.edu/~dmsander/WWW/335/peel/peel1.html) On that note, PubMed.com is free. NEVER trust your MD to know it all - most are clueless. Even the bright ones can't follow it all - so do your own research. Just know this: the medical industry is your best chance of success, so be careful about flying to Mexico or wherever. We live in the age of miracle and wonder. -Lazy |

My ex-boss went to a place called Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa. He was supposedly cured there after the local hospital had given up hope.

Sorry to hear that, my dad got cancer from too much smoking and the Drake chemical plant superfund site.
Worht repeating! My mom died from a brain tumor in '81. The docs gave her about 10 months. She lasted lasted more like 24 because she was a fighter. She also wasn't afraid to try new medicines and procedures either. Fight this monster with all your heart and all your mind. You CAN beat this. Or you can let it beat you. I'll have you in my prayers. |

I have not read anything but your original post. My heart goes out to you. My advice is to get your ass to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston TX. They are the preeminent cancer center in the world. Just do it. I had a friend who had taken his brother to UCLA med center and they gave up on his cancer. I advised MD Anderson. This was 7 years ago. His brother is alive today due to MD anderson. He thanks me each year for another year of his life..even though I just gave the advice. |

scalawag, There are. Thing is, if it is already in the spine, even though I put VERY LITTLE "faith" in "modern medicine", were I you (or in your position), I'd do the chemo PLUS the alternative therapies. That being said... The research for basil is still pretty preliminary but labratory studies suggest that compounds found in basil may help disrupt the dangerous chain of events that can lead to the development of cancer. Now, I realize you already HAVE it, but the test animals showed levels of enzymes in their bodies that are known to deactivate cancer causing substances in the body. So it SHOULD help slow the progression, at LEAST. This info may be found in the book: The Doctor's Book of Food Remedies. I did a quick cursury look on the net but didn't find anything that refrenced this study... but then I have not the name of the article (assuming it was published) nor who did the research....sorry. Also if they wanna "light you up" (do radiation) at some point, it can also protect your healthy cells from chromosomal damage: Protection against radiation-induced chromosome damage and Radiation protection by the ocimum flavonoids orientin and vicenin: mechanisms of action. There are several chemicals named "phytonutrients" that have the ability to stop cancer. The one I am MOST familiar with is "lignans" most of the "research" on the lignans (a phytochemical) and one of, if not THE best source is the hulls of flax seeds. You can purchase the whole seeds from Krogers stores (in the "health food" section usually near the various "flours", or near the seeds/nuts.) at about $2/lb. If there are no Kroger's near you, if you have any Amish stores, they are a fair bet (and probably cheaper). The Amish store near me is where I get mine (not for cancer - another malady, MS) And THERE in BULK (10lbs. and up) it's just $1/lb. But lignans do not allow cancer cells to reproduce. At least that's what the studies say. Measurement and metabolism of isoflavonoids and lignans in the human male. The nice thing about flax seed is you get the benefits of BOTH the lignans AND the omega 3's. Omega 3-fatty acids: health benefits and cellular mechanisms of action. As far as cancer goes ALL meat protein should be avoided, since cancer cells use meat protein to encapsulate itself, making it even harder to kill. Eliminating meat, eggs and milk exposes it to the body's natural defenses more readily. Also eating animal protein takes away the trypsin and chymotrypsin used to digest the meat RATHER than using them to destroy the lining of cancer cells so that the immune system can destroy them. "If it is animal or if it comes from animal, you should not have it. If it is not animal or does not come from animal, you can have it, but you can not cook it." You should remove all meat, all poultry, all fish, all eggs, cheese, cottage cheese and milk. For 4 to 6 months MINIMUM, and were I you, I'd eliminate it until the docs declared me "cancer-free" THEN I would limit my meat/animal product intake for a while.... The dissolving of the cancer cells's protein lining, is done by the enzymes trypsin and chymotrypsin, which are secreted by the pancreas. It is important to understand that it takes large quantities of trypsin and chymotrypsin to digest animal protein. Thus, the cancer patient who is eating animal protein may be using up all, or almost all, of his/her trypsin and chymotrypsin for digestive purposes. This leaves none of these enzymes available to the rest of the body. And none to destroy the protein lining of the cancer cells. Then LOTS of fresh fruits and veggies. The reason for the fresh fruits and fresh vegetables is, again, because of enzymes. There are some enzymes in fresh fruits and vegetables which are tremendously important in good nutrition. Any temperature over 130 degrees will destroy the enzymes in the fruits and vegetables. For this reason, the fruits and vegetables may not be cooked, canned or bottled. Frozen foods from the grocery store are also prohibited because most of these frozen foods have been processed in some manner. They have either been blanched, pasteurized or sterilized so that the enzymes have been destroyed. Those who do their own home freezing are permitted to do so as long as they do not blanch the foods before they are frozen. You should not eat anything which contains white flour or white sugar. Whole wheat flour can be used instead of white flour. In the place of sugar you can use either honey or molasses. Foods containing preservatives are kept to an absolute minimum. I would encourage you to have as wide a variety of fruits as possible, except for the citrus fruits. Oranges, lemons, grapefruit and tomatoes (Yes, tomatoes are technically a citrus fruit.) should not be more than ten percent of your fruit intake. Other fruits such as apples, peaches, and pears contain far more nutrition than do the citrus fruits. Except for the citrus fruits, you should eat the seeds of your fruits. Apple seeds, grape seeds, apricot kernels, peach kernels, etc. have a high nitriloside content. Which is a very promising anti-cancer tumor cell agent. I also found the books: "Death By Doctoring" and "The Cancer Industry" pretty interesting. While I can't tottally vouch for them, I have had/seen similar things while trying to utilize "modern medicine" to help w/my MS - result? I went from 3 attacks/year to 8 attacks/year. Then I did what per my research determined what would be best, I had 1 attack in 3 years. Hmmm.... |

The only answer I have comes from experience.
Quickly find THE best cancer center for your cancer and get referred there ASAP. Google is your friend. You will find that MD Anderson in Houston, Texas is one of the best. There are others. Do NOT settle for a local guy treating this. Go to the expert, the best, the guy with the highest success rate. Do it and do it now. Ultimately the cancer and treatments will work on you like two heavy weight boxers. Start tommorrow fortifying your system with healthy food, vitamins, etc. Don't starve yourself, just bulk up on the obivious anti-oxidants, veggies, fruit, etc. People of faith have a greater success rate than others. Prayer connects you to the maker. You are going to need Him. You can beat it. Keep positive. Have things to live for? Keep them in mind all the time. Best of luck. I'll pray for you now. IM me if you would care to get personal. |
+1 I pray the Lord heals you. It's never to late to ask for help from you creator. God speed my friend. |
And honestly count yourself lucky as hard as that is to swallow...
Some people get killed / die instantly, without the chance to repent..... You have a good opportunity to establish a relashionship that will NEVER die...ever!! Do the right thing, take it to the Lord i beg you....................................... |

My wife had her fifth course of chemotherapy last Thursday, as she continues her fight against breast cancer. As a result of that, allow me to introduce you to another forum which I belong to (if it hasn't been mentioned already-I didn't read all the posts), and one that may prove helpful: Cancer Forums. Hang tough and fight back!
Good advice. My wife was a charge nurse at MD Anderson, and worked there for fourteen years. She specialized in bone marrow transplants and worked with adult leukemia patients. That's quite a place, and let me tell you-plenty of those folks are sold out to the cause of fighting cancer. I mean committed! |
Please be reminded of a tough ass texan named Lance Armstrong who was diagnosed with cancer. It had spread from his testicals to his lungs and brain. He recovered to be the only seven time winner of the Tour de France. Have faith, medicine can do miracles when you have the right mind set.
Good Luck jim |

sorry to hear that news, don't know if prayer is high on your list so I'll offer you this site Naturalcures.com it's a shame the way the medical profession abuses people in this country. The pharmacitcal giant here uses peoples lives for their profits and gains. sic greedy bunch there's hope in natural cures for shure. I saw a young woman get healed of uterin cancer just takeing high doses of Coenzime Q-10 in a month and a half so the options are there, it all depends on who you choose to believe.

Ahh shit man...
My first reply, after I got 5 words in to reading your post, was WELCOME TO THE CLUB! Then...I read the rest. I'm sorry bro The similar happened to me, but they caught it before it spread...well, they think. I always had thyroid problems, etc...couple years ago I finally sacked up and called a good doc, I was tired of being all depressed and shit. Long story short, he took out my thyroid (5lb, weighed; the operating surgon, who is a specialist in this in the northeast, had never seen one that size)...did the biopsy, and while the mean was fine, they found some funky stuff off the mean. Long story short, I was carrying a boat anchor in my neck which could have gone thermonuclear at any time. I got lucky. Having said that - mine was NOT the major bad kind. Mine was the kind that laid dormant until...well, until. I'm so sorry With luck, they'll get you patched up as well. I pray. Chemo's about it, man. Surgery and chemo. You'll get sick either way, either route...and they'll want to (or SHOULD want to) do both. My neck got carved; I cannot imagine what you must go through with this I accepted the risks...I knew that when they went in I might lose my voice, etc. Better I lose my voice, than lose living my life. It just meant I'd have to expand my sign language repiortie beyond my one-finger salute IMO, it's worth the sick, the pain, the hate...to crawl out that other side and wave hello. Look, no shitter here...I'm sorry If you want I'll give you my line, and I'll do what I can to help you and yours. IM me if you want, or email me; both are on the buttons in the forum. I always took this stuff with a grain of irony and humor; always figured if you can't have some fun with it, why bother. According to my docs, it's one of the reasons I recovered so quick; I personally like to think it's because I'm immortal. When women ask me about the scar across my throat, I tell them I was attacked by pirates, off the coast of Madagascar. My parents get all uptight about it; I brush it off because..well, it's life, and I can't control what's been ordained for my by powers higher than I. Not that I'm religious...but.....but. I have a friend who's been through some agressive chemo, and my mom has been through cancer as well; it's why she never had more children other than my brother and I. Chemo is a shitty period of your life, but like the rest of life, it's just flowing water in the stream. It passes. It leaves it's marks, but it does pass. If you need a hand, a shoulder, and ear, or someone to yell at, let me know. I'm not the only one who's here for you, or who has gone through something...at least vaugly similar. Take care, and live long. |
Very sorry to hear this news. I can't even imagine.
You're in my thoughts....stay strong....both yourself and those who love you are going to need that to fight this. |
Damn, sir, you are my hero. |
Warlord beat me to it...check out City of Hope (and similar). I can't donate blood because of my meds...or I'd join you. Prayers sent, Gwen |
