That's why I said the DUers would go into canniptions, this video is replete with "WAR CRIMES": WAR CRIME #1: Politically incorrect racial remark! WAR CRIME #2: Made terrorist cry (offended him/hurt his feelings...the most ghastly crime of all)! WAR CRIME #3: Instead of some chick's drawers, a sandbag over a terrorist's head (never mind that Saudi women spend their entire lives lumbering around like this, that is, when they are even allowed out in "public")! |

Though i do not like racism in any form, I can forgive what was said in the heat of battle. I have never come under fire like that but I can imagine the words flowing out of anyone's mouth at the time is forgiveable. That's in response to #1. #2 Well, I enjoyed that alot. Terrorist cry baby, gotta love that. #3 I was disappointed, No one drew faces on the bags!  |

I don't think the comment everyone is refering to is actually racist. Listen closely just a few moments before that comment is made. You'll hear a black guy say: "Hey white boy, you need a magazine". Then soon after the comment follows.
My guess? These two guys were good friends and they were just harassing each other. Both were probably grinning ear to ear when they were saying that stuff. I view it as no biggie. Just one of those "inside" things you'd have to be there to understand. I highly doubt the guy who uttered that is really a raging racist. BTW, that was a pretty kick ass video. It was worth the wait to download. |

Negative. As I pointed out before, listen to the video again carefully. That exchange was between him and another guy in his unit. After the initial volley of fire, I hear a voice (either an actual black guy or a white guy acting goofy and being all ghetto like) say: Hey white boy, you need another magazine? Following that, there is some rustling around as the guys reload. Then came the comment...."effing N'ers!". When the camera pans around to the guys faces, that one has the biggest shit eating grin on his face you ever saw. Nothing was meant by this, that much I am almost sure of. IMHO, this was just two friends pestering each other and nothing more. I doubt there was any actual racism intended. Just some razzing among friends. It was not directed at the insurgents (otherwise "sand" would have preceded the N part) and it was not directed at blacks in general either. It was just a goofy comment made in the heat of battle among buddies. Nothing more. I don't think we should be concerned or read anything more into it. |

That would explain it, then. One of the photographs shows a partly hidden spray-painted sign: [esta]cion [espa]nola? I can't get the enye-thingy over the "n". According to this article (www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/news/2004/04/mil-040404-afps01.htm), the insurgents attacked Spanish and Salvadoran troops. That would make sense--the guy talking in the video really didn't have an Iberian accent. |

This happened at Camp Baker in Najaf a few months before my unit replaced the Salvadorians (the Spanish had left earlier).
When we got there we heard a lot of good things about the Salvadorians. They were supposedly left by a Spanish patrol and had to fend off insurgents hand to hand. They ended up killing quite a few. Does anyone have any video or pictures of the fighting during the cemetary or fighting in Najaf during August? |

You are probably right. I just realized what a hypocrite I am too. We had a Philipino in our platoon and one day he fell into some concertina wire. We all started yelling "Gook in the wire Gook in the wire" I guess since being out of that element made me forget about that type of stuff and how if you are close enough you can get away with it because at the time, you are brothers and brothers are supposed to hack on each other. I have been dealing with racists crap lately and have had my fill of it and let it thin my skin. Thanks for pointing out what was the most probable scenario. |

As for the racist comments... I got no problem with that... it's war.. and evil word was applied to an evil people (the insurgents in this case). I seriously doubt that there were any american blacks attacking their position. On side note. I don't believe that black people have a trademark on the word "nigger", no more than hispanics have a trademark on "spick" or anglos on "cracker". |

Wildboar, I suggest you don't join the military either. Lots of racists jokes flying around when I was in the Corps. All of the jokes were in good fun aimed at all races but I've never heard that many racist comments flying around ever. Edit: Should have read ahead before posting. Carry on.

Did you think so? I think many of them were shooting semi-auto. Maybe 'cause thats what they had in their hand, or that's what those chose to set the selector on My impression was a lack of discipline, and pretty much shooting at anything at all. and many without head gear with their back to the enemy (oh..and Damn my lounge chair is comfortable!) How did you like the comment from one who said "all that time in the Marines and I never fired a weapon, and look at me now" (or something to that effect)
