SA's capitalist farmers highest murder risk in the world - European Council statistics------- LONDON. The International Comparison of Criminal Justice Statistics in London reported this week that South Africa is the crime champion of the entire world -- with Russia only a distant second.---------- Statistics gathered by the Council for Europe and the British ministry of internal affairs have found that South Africa has the world's highest rate of violent deaths. During 1997-'99, an average 56,2 people out of every 100,000 South African inhabitants died violent deaths. -------- The average South African's chance to be murdered is in fact 33 times greater than residents in the European community, these statistics have shown. -------- And among the world's highest at high-risk of murder group, South Africa's white farmers are now running four times as much risk of being murdered than any other average South Africans -- the commercial farmers are actually still being murdered at twice the rate of the country's besieged, understaffed and underfunded police officer corps. --------- Since 1994, South Africa's less than 40,000 commercial farms have been targetted in more than 5,600 attacks by heavily-armed gangs, during which more than 1,100 murders took place -- and 78% of these farm murder victims had been the owners of capitalist agricultural businesses, their employees and relatives.----------- The world's second-highest murder statistic comes from Russia with 20,52 people murdered per 100,000 inhabitants.------- South Africa's violent crimes other than murders and homicides have also increased from 1995's reported 627,271 incidents -- to a reported total of 768, 932 in 1999.-------- The United States, which has five times as many people as does South Africa, had 1,430,690 violent crimes in 1999; Switserland only 528, Japan 43,822 and Australia, 172,230.--------- (link:) http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/rds/whatsnew1.htm ------- http://www.saps.org.za/8_crimeinfo/bulletin/942000/murder.htm----------------
