Did anybody else see this last night?  I was flipping channels when I got home and as I crossed CNN Headline News the little "newsoids" they post across the bottom of the screen showed "A recent survey found that 58% of Americans think that the First Amendment goes too far."  WTF???

Has the population descended that far into ignorance and idiocy?  If so, it's over ladies and gentlemen.  We can stop digging the hole and just lay down and pull the dirt in over us.  We're finished as a free nation.

But then, this was CNN, so it most probably isn't true.[sniper]

Who cares what CNN or 58% of Americans think. This country is not a democracy.

Who are these frigging people? Were they the folks in the back of the Civics 101 classroom, sound asleep?

I appreciate Constitutional law the same as I do the Bible. It's cut and dried. Simple.

Don't need a lawyer or a priest to explain anything in the Constitution or the Bible!

I think that the current interpretation of the first amendment goes too far:

1. Separation of church and state interpretation: The first amendment was designed to keep the church from controlling the state and vice versa. The current interpretation keeps religious individuals from expressing their beliefs at/during state related activities (school, work, court, etc). It basically divorces religion from state. A state without religion is like a president without morals… Oh... Wait… I guess we have had it all…

2. Free speech has been extended past the point of common sense. Pornography is destructive and not free speech. Maybe it should be legal, but not protected.

I'd like people to understand that in any society, the majority opinion defines the society.  Those who control that majority opinion controls the society.  In the former Soviet Union the majority opinion was "this life sucks but we can't do anything about it".  Later, that opinion changed - and now there's no Soviet Union any more.

Here the majority opinion is becoming "the Constitution is outdated" - and as soon as enough people believe it the Constitution won't matter any more.  It's a FACT.  Deal with it.

A few people here think it does too. Just ask them what they think about the idea of public schools leading the students in a Christian prayer. If it weren't for that pesky 1st ammendment then it'd be all good.

How many of you REALLY believe that 58% of Americans were polled? I hate statistics and statisticians...except when they prove me right![;)]  Honestly though, I don't believe in the validity of the polls that attempt to demonstrate what Americans think. How can you poll a few hundred, a few thousand, or even tens of thousands and really get a truthful sampling of what such a large group of people(the entire U.S.) believe? I get sick of hearing these quotes![:(!]
p.s. these icons are kinda fun as about 97% of AR15.com users demonstrate.
