The largest round I ever fired was a .416 Rigby. It was last fall,  a couple months before I went in for back surgery to fix 2 of the 4 leaking disks I had...very, very bad idea!

.270 Caliber Bolt-Action Rifle. First time I fired such a gun, the recoil drove the scope into my nose, leaving it bloodied up a little. Just remember keep your nose away from the scope.

My great uncle had a double barrell rifle, I don't recall the make but I think the load was a .480 Nitro Express.

The most powerfull pistol round I shot is a .41 magnum out of a Ruger Blackhawk.

Rifle:338-378 WBY, 300 grainers at about 3000 fps.  Pistol: plain ol' .44 mag; my 4" S&W29 bloodies my hands after 3-4 rounds.

416 Rigby out of a double rifle of my stepdad's.  (He thought recoil pads were for the ladies.) I think it was a 500gr bullet.  Hurt so bad for the first round I figured I'd held it wrong, firmed up my hold and touched off the second barrel. NEVER again. My vision tunnelled out and my shoulder felt like it was full of gravel for a week.

I shot a couple dozen HEIT rounds from the 25 mm chain gun in an LAV.  Also about 65 rounds of 50 BMG through the lovely Ma Deuce.

458 Magnum in a Ruger single shot rifle. Man that thing was awesome. It did hurt a little though...after four or five shots I'd had enough.

How about a bazooka.  Three rounds at Camp Red Devil, the artillery ranges of Fort Carson Colorado.  It was sort of an "Air Force guys play with the Army's toys" week.

Nothing impressive for rifles, but 2 weeks ago I had the opporturnity to shoot a 45-70 Thompson Center Contender (no compensator).  Hanging on for dear life, and I still almost took it in the chin.  I'd do it again, but it's not going on my "want" list.
