That pretty much nails it and has been this way for years. I refer to those in group #2 as "hobbyists", only buying guns because it is the "in" thing to do and will eventually move onto another "hobby" when something else better comes along.

I notice more of a "spectrum"...differing levels. I guess some think its a lost cause and give a little at a time. The ones that are hardliners wont budge, but are frustrated because it is being taken anyway. And anywhere in between? I never really tried to catagorize in that way. Everyone has their own idea of what "common sense gun control" really means to them...obviously, not handing out guns to criminals is "common sense" I prefer my birthright not tampered with...it has been.

This group strongly limits NRA support believing them 'soft'. LIMITS meaning they(we) are members, but additional support monies may be spent in other places. I.E., RKBA, GOA, etc.... I think ARLady AND beekeeper fall in group one, AS do I. I didnt say we REFUSE NRA doctorine, but we do not just fall into the fold blindly. We all have disagreements with them, mostly over their 'softness'... |

Like anothergene says, I see more of a spectrum than any group per-se, it's always been that way.
To make it more confusing - most members aren't even consistent with themselves from day to day (That's not a bad thing - it's just the way most people are). The best way I've found to gauge "Group Two" (Three, or whatever) is to pay attention to the ones who are the first to start screaming [s]MOM, MOM![/s] (I mean) MOD, MOD! As for myself, IF this is a hobby to any degree, it will not die until I do. If I do my part it won't die then either. |

I don't think those two groups as presented are a fair representation at all of the posters I have seen on the board. I think the NRA has let us down, time and time again. But the talk of conspiracy and NWO is one I just don't agree with, sorry. I think must gun laws made are liberals ideas of taking care of us from danger, just like seat belt and helmet laws not from some desire of a NWO.

I always believed that I was firmly in group #1, but after discussing many different issues with people on this board I found that I was very onesided on certain issues.
But I have learned that I must be more open minded on these issues, other wise I would be a hypocrite..and then I am no better than the enemy liberals. So, I am in group #1, witha little help from my AR15 friends.[:)] sgtar15 |

On this board, I am middle of the road. For example, I believe all firearm sales should include a background check, PROVIDED THE BACKGROUND INFO ISN'T KEPT. I just think we need to control access for some people. |

I'm neither group.
I'd be a libertarian, except the current party leadership wants a very small military. That'd be sucide for our country, even without the F'd up foreign policy we've had in recent years, we are still the wealthiest country in the world which makes us the number one target for every other nation on the planet(even our current allies). So I stick to republican, because I sure as hell don't want to waste my vote on libertarian and help another democratic president and congress get in office. Those years were horrible for us. But a lot of the group one libertarians are hardcore pro-life Christians. I am a pro-choice Atheist, and thus some of my ideas and values differ from the majority of group one people. Most group one people push biblical views into the constitution which do not exist. Also, I don't want to be the constitution police, but a lot of messages people post refering to rights and constitutional law, are incorrect. They are actually referring to US code, not the constitution. I believe there is an obvios active effort to make firearms illegal by the democrats, but there is no conspiracy. You can't conspire through public speeches like them. I am a firm believer in RKBA! But, above all, I beleive we should legalize secession, and Califorina should be the first state to go! |

What Cavvet said isn't that surprising if you think about it--since the election there have been many news stories about how our entire country is divided between those who take the Constitution seriously and those who take social progress seriously. Since "gun owners" are a nearly perfect cross-section of society, this board would have to reflect those differences as well.
The hard part is, the two camps are so different ideologically that reconciliation between them seems impossible. |

Could it be that group 1 people are older and have seen the changes that have taken place concerning firearms over the years. I can remember when guns were no big deal. We always walked down the street with our guns shouldered.
I must admit it pisses me off to see the changes that have taken place, especially since I didn't do anything to cause the present situation. I'm definately in group 1 |

I've been part of Group 1 since the beginning of time, literally.

I would save those curses for myself for not doing whatever it took to make certain that the NRA leadership were 'true believers' as well. Let's see... 11967 registered users... Yeah, I think we could put together a division with that. It would probably have to be Light Infantry, and we'd have to eliminate a bunch of officer positions. We could probably lighten up on alot of the CS and CSS units. I vote for calling our base Fort Gene Stoner. |
