and neither are the replicans Governor Bush’s Policies Vigorous enforcement of current gun laws Enforce federal gun laws. Under the Clinton-Gore Administration, federal gun prosecutions have dropped 46%. Governor Bush will give prosecutors the resources they need to aggressively enforce our gun laws and will provide more funding for aggressive gun law enforcement programs such as Texas Exile and Project Exile in Richmond, Virginia. Make instant-check prosecutions a top priority. Under the Clinton-Gore Administration, there have only been 8 prosecutions out of over 200,000 direct violations of the Brady Law. Governor Bush will give prosecutors the desperately needed resources they need to aggressively enforce our gun laws. Background checks at gun shows and pawn shops Expand ‘instant check’ system. Governor Bush believes the instant check system is the best way to keep criminals from buying guns at gun shows and supports changing federal law to give gun show sponsors special access to the National Instant Check System to conduct checks on behalf of non-licensed vendors. Increase the age for possession of a handgun Increase the minimum age from 18 to 21. Governor Bush supports raising the age from 18 to 21 to possess a handgun without parental supervision. Under current law, a person must be 21 or older to purchase a handgun. Supports Juvenile Assault Weapons Ban Semi-automatic assault weapons ban for juveniles. This would extend the current limitations (subject to the current exceptions) on youth possession of handguns to semi-automatic assault weapons. Supports child safety locks for all handguns. Child safety locks for handguns. Governor Bush supports voluntary efforts to equip all handguns with child safety locks. If Congress passed legislation requiring mandatory trigger locks for all new handguns, he would sign it. He is concerned, however, that such legislation not be seen as a panacea, because adults still have to be responsible for using the trigger locks and for monitoring their children's actions. Project Childsafe. Because congressional proposals to mandate child safety locks affect only new handguns, and not the 65 million handguns already in circulation, Governor Bush has called for Project Childsafe – a national initiative to provide federal matching funds to make child safety locks available for every single handgun in America. Supports ban on importation of high-capacity ammunition clips. Include imported high-capacity ammunition clips to current ban. Governor Bush supports extending the current ban on high-capacity ammunition clips to include those imported from foreign countries. heres the url www.georgewbush.com/issues/guns.html

what was that "no weapons within 300ft of a school BS". In some areas it would be ridiculous if not impossible to try to stay 300 ft from a school. Would you be a felon if you owned a gun and your house was within 300ft?

You guys, whatever your political affiliation is, quit BITCHIN' and politely inform your President about how you feel or what you'd like him to do! The URL is posted---USE IT! I did. We're all here because we like guns. At least unite on that front and exercise your 1st Amendment right to talk to your President. Please and Thank you.

Thanks, but the bad news is the message got returned as "undeliverable"! I'll go search for a good URL. Maybe some of you guys can supply the correct link or help find it. I'm determined to send my message. Searching...

OK! Here's the President's e-mail address:president@whitehouse.gov Here's what I wrote--- Mr. President, It is an honor to be able to send you my thoughts via the internet. Thank you for taking the time to hear from a Citizen. Just tonight, I composed a message to you which I somehow lost by hitting the wrong button...I hate it when that happens. I managed to get another, shorter version sent when it became apparent that it did not reach you. I now have that message and hopefully it will reach you this time. Here, then, is what I wrote: ..somehow I either lost the message I was going to send or you got most of it. (Computers don`t like having the wrong button pushed inadvertently) Gist of the message was: Please don`t make our gun laws more restrictive. Gun owners are REALLY glad you made the Presidency. Get the NRA Eddy Eagle program into all the school systems. Don`t change the gunshow laws; Do "destigmatize" (a special word for ya!) the Good Citizens who are gun owners; Don`t restrict the so-called "high capacity" magazines (they are not "clips"); Do prosecute the criminals. I used to vote Democrat until I became interested in firearms. I now vote Republican or not at all... Gun owners suffered intolerably under Clinton. Please give us a break and crack down on the bad guys. Honestly, sir. If you only knew the emotional ride most of us suffered while not knowing who would be in the White House, gun friendly or ?? Please give us rest from the onslaught of the Anti-Gun crowd and help restore the Honor and Dignity of being an armed and free people. It`s a new experience for me to write to my President. You have my utmost respect. I hope to vote for you again next time. Thank you for the opportunity to leave a message with you, Sir. Most Sincerely, [blue]Mr. BusMaster007[/blue] Citizen of the United States of America

GREAT, I'M a FUCKING "JUVENILE" till I'm 21, this really pisses me off, I can go die for my country, get thrown in prison for life, and can't fuck a 16 year old without it being illegal, cuz I'm an "adult"... But I'm too young to own a fucking handgun or AR at 20?! WTF is this shit?![pissed] thank god it is the way it is now, as I sit here looking at my Glock 30 (given to my by mom for my 18th B-day), and my Indiana CCW (given to anyone 18 or older with a pulse and a clean background)

Post from Troy
If there was no welfare, and people who came here had to WORK or starve (with crime not being much of an option in a country where anyone could carry any weapon they prefer), unrestricted immigration wouldn't be a problem.
View Quote
Yeah, IF there was no welfare. You end that free lunch program and we'll discuss opening up the borders after that! I look at Texas 100 years ago. Not much of an illegal alien problem was there? If you came North to work in the fields during harvest, the only place you could go, come winter, was back to the South, across the Rio Grande. With welfare, you can have your babies here, go home and collect AFDC and enroll in Medicaid, or stay here and collect. Which immigrant group do you know of that came here in the past and didn't have to work as hard as hell? Just to survive? How much German is spoken in Wisconsin? Do they have to still print the election ballots in German? Nowadays, who needs to work? Work will only unduly complicate the welfare collection process. Eric The(YoQuieroAsylum,PorFavor)Hun[>]:)]

So what ever happened to... 'give us your poor... your huddled masses yearning to breathe free...'?? I for one, still think this is the best policy, IF, as Troy pointed out we are able to get the rest of the Libertarian principles reinstated first, or at the same time.

Nor most Libertarians I know. Bill Maher is, I'm sorry Bill, an idiot. He calls himself a libertarian, but myself a nearly "perfect" (90/90 on 'The Quiz')libertarian, I almost never agree with him. Frankly he usually makes me sick. More than anything he is a smartass, I think he likes being a "libertarian" cuz its "different". Troy, Well, put. I agree 100%. If I had a little more time I would put together a well thought out response of my own (I hope!), as it is this will have to do. Louis

Troy is right. The Republicans cannot be trusted either. Remember, it was RONALD REAGAN who enacted the 1986 machine gun ban, basically preventing all of us from owning brand spanking new M-4 carbines. George Bush Sr. also supported the Brady Bill. George W., judging from his Texas voting record and his kow-towing to the Democrats in the spirit of "COUGH" bipartisanship, is nothing more than a statist. I'm convinced if we want to repeal all of these racist and unjust gun laws in this country, we have to go another route. Currently, the libertarian party is the only choice. The Republicans fail every time they obtain power, and worse, they falter to the American left. themao [chainsawkill] PS: BILL MAHER IS NO WAY IN HELL A LIBERTARIAN! He says that to sound like he is against big government and is an outsider for ratings. He is a friggin leftist that just hates corporations.

Forget Libertarian. They are too Liberal. Vote Constitution Party. http://www.constitutionparty.com/
Gun Control The right to bear arms is inherent in the right of self defense, defense of the family, and defense against tyranny, conferred on the individual and the community by our Creator to safeguard life, liberty, and property, as well as to help preserve the independence of the nation. The right to keep and bear arms is guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the Constitution; it may not properly be infringed upon or denied. The Constitution Party upholds the right of the citizen to keep and bear arms. We oppose attempts to prohibit ownership of guns by law-abiding citizens, and stand against all laws which would require the registration of guns or ammunition. We emphasize that when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have them. In such circumstances, the peaceful citizen’s protection against the criminal would be seriously jeopardized.

Foreign Policy We oppose entangling foreign alliances. NATO no longer serves a defensive purpose and the U.S. must withdraw from it. The Constitution Party opposes any alliance or participation in any treaty or agreement that compromises our independence as a nation, or that subverts our Constitution by improperly committing us to participation in foreign conflicts or intervention in foreign wars. All treaties must be subordinate to the Constitution, since the Constitution is the only instrument which empowers and limits the federal government. The United States must not enter into agreements that would have an adverse impact on the security and safety of this nation. The Constitution Party calls on the United States to withdraw from the United Nations and to require the U.N. to move out of the United States.

Seems they agree with us alot more than the Libertarian Party. The Constitution Party is the more Conservative Sector of the Libertarian Spectrum. The Libertarian Party is simply the Liberal Sector of the Spectrum.

Redneck is right. GW is the best we have, we need to lobby him, through the NRA and privately through email. Some of his stuff makes sense. It isn't like the old days, there are too many people around. I keep my guns locked up. I taught my children gun safety. But I don't know about the idiot next door. It is not that I want to compromise, we will have to comprimise. But let's get our wants to the right people. I live in PRNJ, we can have a 6 to 12 month wait for permits for a handgun. Even for an LEO. When the Brady billl came out, we were happy....only 5 days! We are still suffering the wait. Buying guns at a show are ok as long as it is from an FFL. Most people don't know that. They think it is a guy in an overcoat and a van. RESPONSIBLE GUN OWNERSHIP is what we need.

Libertarians are not liberal. They (we) believe in freedom from the oppression of government... in personal AND fiscal matters. Conservatives believe in fiscal freedom, but oppression by government in personal matters ("you cant do THAT! It's immoral/disgusting/stupid/etc."). Liberals believe in personal freedom, but government oppression in fiscal matters (high taxes/welfare). Opposite Libertarian is Totalitarian. They believe in government oppression in all areas of your life. Essentially, as Troy pointed out, Libertarians simply want a constitutional government back. No more, no less.

Well, I guess we have no choice at this point, do we? I hope you are right, but I doubt it. Keep something in mind as you criticize the Libertarian philosophy. What they want is simply what we started out with in this country... Liberty (as outlined in those 2 great documents the Constitution, and Bill of Rights). Our founders were most certainly Libertarians. The constitution party believes in using the government to enforce THEIR standards on others just like liberals, conserservatives, communists, and fascists. Only one party believes in letting YOU decide how to live YOUR life: The Libertarians. I would love to go on, but its past my bedtime now... I have to deal drugs tomorrow - [;)](pharmacist) Louis

We cannot allow anybody to do anything with reprecussions. The constitution party realizes this while guarunteeing freedom. If we let anybody do Crack, we will be basically saying we don't care. What about ecstacy. Some drugs should be lagalized, but not all of 'em. I do disagree with the constitution party in some ares, but not as many as the Libertarians. Based on a political quiz: 96% of the time I agree with the Constitution Party 92% of the time I agree with the Libertarians 84% of the time I agree with the Republicans 68% of the time I agree with the Reform Party 18% of the time I agree with the Democratic Party 6% of the time I agree with the Green Party 1% of the time I agree with the Socialist Party. Don't worry 1% = only partial agreement on a single issue.
Link Posted: 6/30/2001 6:52:07 PM EDT
Don't worry, I voted for Bush in 2000. He sure needed it. 1/158 here in Florida. I couldn't have voted 3rd Party and let Al Gore become President, but in a state where it doesn't matter, I would vote Constitution Party.

SAY WHAT? Don't get me wrong, the Constitution Party is a great party -- my second favorite. If we only had to worry about struggles in Congress between them and the Libertarians, this country would be in fine shape. But as far as I can see, every policy position you quoted from the Constitution Party is practically identical to those of the Libertarian Party. Sure there are differences elsewhere, but not there. And for those still confused about Bill Maher, NO HE IS NOT A LIBERTARIAN! He is a Clinton loving anti-gun socialist. The only reason I can see that he even refers to himself as a libertarian is just to make himself appear to be a disinterested neutral person as he judges the Democrats right and the Republicans wrong on issue after issue. I don't like Republicans myself, but Bill Maher drips venom every time he mentions them.

And just how are you going to vote him out? Libertarian may be a long shot, but are you going to vote Democrat? Sure we should lobby Bush now and give him a chance, but if he screws us (as he surely will) let's start building up the #1 pro-gun alternative and get them on the road to future victories.
