I don't understand why all Europeans don't have a HUGE arsenal of weapons at their houses.
After WWII you would think they learned their lesson and would always be prepared. Throw into the mix all the fighting over there in Bosnia, Northern Ireland etc. any of those people could be attacked at any time. They are asking to be robbed and shot by not getting a clue and protecting themselves. It just doesn't make any sense. |

Best as I can figger, they LIKE having someone be "the man" over them.

It's their history of being subjects. They have it ingrained that there is a class that is superior to them that has the responsibility of taking their money and giving them orders. They obviously aren't qualified to run a country. [sniper]

Starting to get a bit sick and tired of all the Euro bashing. For people who continuously claim they are not interested in Europe it sure as hell gets a lot of attention now does it? Kuiper |

While watching a program on the History channel about the Holocaust, I was getting pissed because these people did little to protect themselves.
They were continually stripped of their rights and did nothing. At least organize, arm yourselves and take a few with you. Once is unacceptable, but then to allow yourself to learn nothing and not arm yourself for future problems deserves no pity. Hell, if they were able to defend themselves we never would have lost so many US lives bailing their sorry asses out. Get a freaking clue already and defend yourself. If that isn't stupid I don't know what is. |

But MOSTLY, Americas intervention has been in teh form of saving Europes keister. The Europeans, instead of just saying "Thank you" for the US military, financial etc aid, they have been sending over a NON-STOP barrage of criticism of American ideals. They criticise our gun ownership. They criticise our relative sexual restraint. They criticise our President. They criticise our health care systems. They criticise our free speech rights. They criticise our nuclear power plants. They criticise our missile defense systems. They criticise our environmental policy. They criticise our EVERYTHING. When was the last time any American politcal leader EVER criticised europe anywhere near their constant bashing of us??? NEVER. No, we just keep sending them more financial aid, more military support against their dictator du jour. And what thanks do we get?? A daily pissing on. And the occasional major defication. I wouldn't care one whit about Europe, if they didn't seem to have as their goal the criticism, even the destruction, of EVERYTHING that I hold dear. Frankly, ALL I want from Europe is a simple "Thank you" - followed by silence. Alternatively, they can send over a waiver of our responsinility from giving them ANY MORE help. Their choice. |

Boo-hoo, so "the Europeans" all criticise the U.S. Well, let me tell you just a little bit about a European country, because of course, despite all the anti tactics of trying to stereotype ALL Europeans into the same mould, there is no such thing as a European - it is just a geographic label. Norwegians and Swedes have more in common with polar bears than they do with Italians or Greeks, so stop with this stereotyping crap. In Denmark, violent crime and murder rates are ridiculously low, corruption in the police force is virtually nonexistent, and very few guns exist in the hands of criminals. We don't have to worry about some sudden invasion because we have a national guard that actually works - in that all members (and there are a lot) keep their weapons at home, along with a significant cache of ammunition. When I lived in Denmark, I had an MG-42(59) in my closet, along with about 600 rounds. It is also funny to hear how many complain that "the Europeans" are always criticising this and that. How many of you have been over there and actually noticed how many people give a rat's ass about the U.S.? The answer is VERY FEW! Where do you get this impression that "the Europeans" care so much about the U.S.? Are you talking about politicians or about people? When something noteworthy happens like O.J. killing two people and walking away, or a massacre at a high school, or a Rodney King riot, or a bungled presidential election, or a banana republic inside the US going nuts over a cuban boy, then the rest of the world, including all of the European countries, take notice, and laugh. Keep in mind, because Denmark is such a wondeful utopia (kidding!), we laugh at pretty much everyone. [>]:)] |

Heck, half the time the USGI's wanted to shoot the Brits for not holding up their end of the deal. Montgomery's moment in the sun, Operation MarketGarden was a HUGE flop. Nearly disasterous, and ALMOST turned the tide of the war in Hitler's favor. It was the US commercial infrastructure that built the Sherman tank, the B17, the Iowa class battleships, the Higgins boat landing craft, and paid for MOST of the stuffs with which the war was won. let's see - what did the brits supply?? Oh yeah, the mulberry floating harbor, which when it was destroyed by weather on teh D-Day beaches, THEY were ready to pack it in and go home. But US ingenuity rebuilt the harbors, and otherwise improvised to get the LST's directly to the beach. The US supplied a large percentage of the small arms that the Allies used. make NO mistake about it - the US WON WWII. And don't bother flaming me for the above FACTS. flame teh historians that reported them. |

IM GETTING SICK OFF THIS BULLSHIT. You guys slam all us Europeans in the same pile. "No great arsenal at home", fuck here in Finland we have a little over 5mil people, over 2 mil weapons around. No one needs to carry a pistol around in the US. I can carry concealed but I choose not to.
The crime rate in the US has been dropping like a rock and is at it's lowest levels in decades. People see the news on Columbine or Waco and assume it is a war zone. What they are forgetting is that there are 275 million people here. Maybe 10 people have been killed in school shootings out of 30-40 million kids. Our point is that the socialist news paints this inaccurate picture. Think of it this way, there hasen't been a single school shooting in the Northeast which includes Boston, New York etc. With 5 million people in Finland you are smaller then a few boroughs of NYC. There are 10-20 times the people in the Northeast then there are in your whole country and we haven't had a single school shooting. A real freaking war zone, huh? See my point. |

10 kids killed in school shootings, yeah right.
We haven´t had a SINGLE school shooting type crime here also. But which country do you think as a more violent nation judging with your own knowledge, The United States Of America or Finland. World politics will be fought by politicians as long there are people around, couldnt care less. But what bugs me is some members around here start bashing us all Europeans as somesort of communists and people without rights. In Finland and Denmark combined (similar population) there might be 1 such case a year. Suppose now that the next year, there are 75 such shootings in Chicago, and 2 in Finland and Denmark. Oh look - the amount only went up 50% in Chicago, but it went up a whopping 100% in Finland and Denmark. Yeah, they are clearly catching up, aren't they? NOT! Before you call other people stupid, you might want to be careful of what you say yourself. |

You are missing the point.
Let me put it this way. I live in Massachusetts, we have not had any school shootings. There are more people in Massachusetts then your whole country. There have been as many school shootings around me as around you. Understand? Let me out it another way for you. If you included an equal area in terms of land and population in Europe compared to the US, it would include many areas of civil unrest like Bosnia for example. So when you compare apples to apples the US is a much safer area. We don't have ethnic cleansing for example. |

Kupier has is right. You guys are defending yourselves as if you indeed feel inferior.
Bureaucracy is a worldwide plague! The history that most of us learned was taught when the Soviets were the bad guys. Hence, few accounts of the Eastern Front were ever widely discussed. Our reported history, like any countries', is full of propaganda. You cannot deny that what you were taught from '50-90 was way over the top with the "Mom, baseball and apple pie" stuff. In my opinion the two most important things that the US did in the European theater were the destruction of German industry (US and British bombing), and landing and advancing far enough to keep the Soviets from rolling right up to the Atlantic. (Though that last one is hindsight) I personally doubt that we would have been so keen on landing on the mainland if the Germans defeated the Soviets in 1942. Total respect must be given to TUUKKA and his clan for maintaining independence through this nightmare. |

A Brit has much more in common with Americans than he/she does with Greeks, and making blanket statements about whether or not "Europeans are just stupid" because they don't own lots of guns is meaningless (and sounds inherently condescending they way you phrased it). The points you just raised are very good, and would have resulted in a completely different conversation - and not necesarily much disagreement on my part. [;)] |

Ya know I don't get this topic at all.
I have more in common with people like Kuiper and Keld than I do some of my liberal neighbors (fellow Americans). Heck, I communicate more with them than I do some of my neighbors. Are there idiots in Europe and socialist trash there? SURE! But I can look out my door in Maryland USA and see the same kind of idiots and socialists, and it just isn't in this state. Instead of trying to bash each other why don't we work on ways/tactics to defeat the "anit-firearm"/"anti-self defense" agenda of the left. You know they are working in concert globally against us. Finally, lets not forget while we (the US) bailed out the Europeans twice in the 20th century; a couple of European nations (like Spain and France) help us to gain our freedom (any of you remember the Battle of Yorktown? How about a guy name L'Enfant?). Ok Rant Mode off, lets get to talking AR-15s! |
