Has anyone here used flares in a M203 look-a-like under-barrel flair launcher?  I was curious as to how far/high the flares go, how much they cost, how bright they are, if they come down on parachutes, etc.

The little flares are more like rockets, no parachute. There are parachute flares, they are bigger and more expensive. There are other loads available.

There are several options for flares with the 37mm.  You can launch the 37mm flares and parachute rocket flares or you can get a 37mm to 26.5mm adaptor and shoot various 26.5mm flares out of the 37mm launcher as well.

The parachute rocket flares are by far the coolest flare you can launch.  It goes up 1,000 feet and burns for 40 seconds.  If you are going to launch one of these make sure to hold the launcher almost straight up.  I launched one at a 60 degree angle, similar to what I shoot bird boms at.  It ended up about 1,000 feet down the road and only a couple hundred feet high.  The flare lit in the air and the parachute opened but since it wasn't high enough most of the flare burned in the neighbor's yard.

If you don't have a 37mm launcher you can also get hand launched flares and parachute rocket flares.
