I see alot of SKS lovers. Maybe you can answer my question? Lets say the SKS is a far better gun than the Mini, Why would you want to have a gun that you cant get spare parts for?  extractors and springs?

I have purchased parts from them for my AK, but because the AK & SKS has so many  factorys and so many types, most of the parts are different/wont fit. Kinda like the FAL  I had.

Nothing, I like them!
To be honest its being not as accurate as my AR's and having a slow reload(like the AK & SKS) theres really not much differents. I cant figure why people hate them. I'm sure like most of you, you would rather take your Mini(if you have one) huntting than your AR.

Apart from Albanian manufactured stuff which tends to be kind of crappy and collector only, the only people who need SKS parts are those that feel that they have to muck (and often destroy original parts) with every gun they buy.

sks, will be much cheaper, spend the difference on much ammo.spare parts are no problem, can be had from many sources. Also if you are worried about spare parts, the rifle is cheap enough to just but an extra or sixbesides,I heard you can shoot the sks underwater

disclamer if you are dumb enough to shoot the sks underwater and it goes KB I am in no way responsible

SKS all the way.  You can buy the rifle and at least a couple cases of ammo for less $$$ than the Mini-14.

I would pick the SKS over the mini 14 or an AR15

you could buy 4 or 5 SKS rifles for the price of one AR15!

I rather have a small SKS collection like;

one Russian
one Roamanian
one Chinese
one Yugo

the SKS is a very rugged and functional rifle, nothing fancy, a lot of gun for your money

I have one Yugo and one Chineese. They both shoot great. Except the one time shooting my chineese when the empty case ejected and "I think the bolt closed to fast", and a piece of the casing ,about the size of a dime, sheared off and stuck in my trigger finger hand. That was about 4-5" form my right eye. Not sure if it was the gun or the ammo.

I can get just about any SKS part.  When I had them I had spare extractors and springs, and even a spare trigger unit.

If getting spare parts is a concern then I'd stay AWAY from the Mini-14 - lots of the Mini's parts are unavailable and require factory fitting.

With the SKS I could install all the parts myself and with the chrome lined barrel (heck even the unlined barrel) I didn't have to worry about it 'burning out' prematurely.

I'd take the SKS over the Mini 14. A Saiga over the SKS. And another AK in whatever caliber over the the Saiga.

Had a Mini 14, it liked to stove pipe.

I have a Mini 14 and 2 SKSs.  After I cut off the grenade launcher and crowned the muzzle on my SKSs I began getting 4 " groups at 100 yds.  This is as good as my Mini 14.  Given the price of the SKSs ($90 - $150 wholesale) compared to the Mini 14 ($450 - $500 retail), the SKS stands out as a better value.  I still like my Mini 14 however.  The biggest downside to the Mini 14 is the lack of good magazines.

Detachable mags aren't necessary.  I can reload my SKS with strippers as fast or faster than most people can change mags in an AK/Mini 14/whatever.  All it takes is some practice.  Mine even came with a leather pouch that goes on your belt and holds 10 strippers of ammo.  I picked up 140 strppers off of Ebay for like $30.  About 50 loaded strippers will fit comfortably in a .30 cal Ammo can.  Load them up, grab the can and your SKS and hit the range for a day of fun.  I love shooting my SKS almost as much as my AR!

Jaq is right!  With an SKS, you can carry much more ammo since you don't have those Rug mags to lug around.  With just a little practice, you can keep an SKS putting fire downrange must faster than an Mini.  The strippers work great.

Unlike a Mini, you can shoot 10 rounds and expect them to stray on the paper.  Barrels on the SKS are stouter and chrome-lined (except for the Yugos).

The Mini looks cool, until you realize it is a civi knock-off with expensive mags and disappointing accuracy (for the money).

The SKS is designed that even if you couldn't get parts, you can make them yourself.  It was a semi-auto carbine for peasants.

There are good adjustable peep sights for the SKS.  I see no point in putting a scope on a rifle like the Mini or the SKS.  Their accuracy doesn't justify it.

Just how many arms do you have,Three if so I don't care how big you are(I'll manage you)!

with three arms the double jab and the two right over hands a guy would  be down for the count!

You can only use one at a time so choose them well!
