I believe some units still use them once in a while. |
Man you've got to tell me which ones, I'd love to try for a chance in of those. I thought they all got phased out?
Mine as well. Those pilots are nuts! |
The top three for me are the PBM Corando, PBY Catalina, the the Martin Mariner. Love those flying boats.

1974 Cessna 172
First plane I ever flew (at the age of 14 no less!) Pilot let me pretty much do everything except the landing. On my "Love to eventually own and might someday be able to actually afford" list: Beech B-58 Baron Beech V-Tail Bonanza Piper Seneca III, IV or V Cessna Caravan Piper SuperCub Warbirds: modern F14 F111 (I'm a sucker for swing wings) F16 (Thats right, I like the lawn dart) Modern Bomber? B1B (again, swing wings) B52 (sheer fucking size) Classic ColdWar (korea / vietnam...50s - 70s)? F86 F80 F4 A4 B58 WWII? F4U B17 P47 P38 P51 |

AIR WOLF
J/K I've always loved the TOMCAT.....ever since I could remember as a kid, It was love at first sight....as a kid the only things that I always draw is the TOMCAT and GUNS...that was when I was still in kindergarten.. |
I've always thought that the F16 was the best looking aircraft ever, and it's smaller size, superior maneouverability, and multi-role capability really appealed to me.
However, I will fully admit that the F22 is the most bad-ass plane ever to take to the air. -Troy P.S., Expect DVDTracker to be along with some great A10 pics. I'm also a big A10 fan. Go Ugly Early! |
SR-71. No reservations. Baddest ass plane ever. Mach 3.2. 90,000 foot ceiling. Piloted by the CIA.
P51 Mustang. Just love the sound of that Rolls Royce Merlin engine.
F-111 for me, no question!
My dad was in the AF when I was a kid, and I used to see them all the time. I had a model with working swing wings. |
My favorite aircraft? Is the one I am on that goes up and comes down without incident...
SgtAR15......
Got one in my list....I just didn't get pictures. |

WWII fighter (Atlantic): P51D Mustang, Supermarine Spitfire WWII fighter (Pacific): Vought F4U Corsair WWII heavy bomber: B17 Fortress WWII medium bomber: B25 Mitchell (grandfather fixed those during the war) Vietnam era: F4 Phantom II (dad flew those bad boys) Modern: F15E Strike Eagle (dad almost got to fly those) Helo: Hughes 500MD |

+1
About 1993, after their admittedly rather dismal performance in the Gulf War. AFAIK, the only OV-10’s in current use by the U.S. government are used for spraying drug crops in South America. There are also a very small number maintained by a couple of states for fighting forest fires. Apparently the large cargo area in the back of the fuselage is great for storing water or herbicide tanks. Sadly, I believe a prototype OV-10 that was being restored to flying condition by a museum was just destroyed in a hanger fire!! |

RF101C and the F106A. I was an instrument mechanic on both in the early '60's

There ain't but two kinds of planes in the world. Fighters and TARGETS! That is a very nice target you have there. |

F15 Eagle. As a kid, I would have given my left nut to fly one.
I don't have a single favorite, but lean towards 1930's & 40's types:
P-12 Monocoupe 110 Special Laird-Turner Meteor Bucker Jungmeister P-36 Did I neglect to mention that I'm a round motor freak? |
My favorite has always been the A-6 Intruder. She looks like a fat bitch, but at least she's got curves :P Close second is the V-22 Osprey.
