I go by the spirit of the law, not necessarily the letter of the law, assuming the law is a just one.

There is a big difference. Our Founding Fathers were "outlaws" because they challenged British athority but I wouldn't call them "criminals".  Criminals, in my book, are people that rape, murder and steal from people. People that build an illegal machine gun and never hurt anyone with it or that grow weed or make 'shine for personal use are "outlaws" but I don't think they should be considered a criminal even though they're breaking a law because I think the laws banning FA ownership, growing marijuana or distilling whiskey are unjust, unconstitutional laws.
