SR71 first choice, second would be a Harrier.
Last year the Harrier they used at the Chesterfield air show was being "retired" after that show was over. They coulda just landed it in my yard and left it there. |

I remember these. I built one as a model plane when I was a kid. Either cockpit can fly the plane, a bunch of .50 cals in the center wing section. Goofy lookin, but cool lookin too. |

F-104 STARFIGHTER or B-58 HUSTLER?
GET BOTH! F-104: Photo Gallery --- www.starfighters.nl/ F-104 shown with the X-15: In flight: Looks fast just sitting there: |

Frankly, I doubt there are many members here who could afford to maintain any of these things (except maybe as a lawn ornament)!!

The P-38 Lightning is right up there, along with a few more if I really thought about it! Good thread! |

Put me down for a Skyraider. You could actually learn to fly it pretty easily.
As for a jet, I'd take the F-86 Sabre. A classic. |
Dunno... All those red X's.... SO hard to choose ! hehe |
aren't there some b1b's that are retired? Yeah baby a B-52 with a F-16's speed... Flame on I'm gone
F86 Sabre, or the Mustang...
Maybe a B17 like my great-uncle flew in the war (WWII) |
P-38 lightning. F4U Corsair, Duantless dive bomber. B-36 Peacemaker. I guess I'm still into WW2 era aircraft
What AeroE said. The OV-10 or T-34, both of those I could run and maintain on a low budget, and fly almost anywhere.
P-51, P-38 next. P-51 still has most parts available if needed. Jets F-16 just about the meanest looking snaky thing. |
OV-10
T-37 with the minigun installed, please. Ta-152, for variety's sake. |
Here we go:
C-47 F-86 UH-1 H-34 H-13 F4u And for sh**'s and giggles a B-29 with Enola Gay painted on the fuse. |
T28 Trojan. Something I could learn to fly in. I'm not a pilot, so a trainer would be nice but one with some performance. I have to believe that alot of former military piolts would get a kick out of flying it, so maybe I could schmooze some free flying lessons (tons of pilots have flight hours in them). I think it has the same engine as a Corsair, but two seats and tricycle landing gear. Easier for ground handling that something like a Corsair or Mustang.
A good looking plane, too. I'd get it in the white and orange Navy hi-vis markings. |

Did they retire the A6? Forget which model number it was but I always thought the A6 not only looked cool but would make a good "family" jet. Better yet, a "quick trip to Las Vegas with 3 friends jet." Always liked the F-86 also. I actually saw one come back all shot up one time from flying a mission. No, I wasn't even born during the Korean War. We had one at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan that was a contract aircraft that went up and towed big silver darts something like 500 -100 yards behind it and then let the F-15's take target practice. One of the F-15 pilots was way off target for the big silver dart, but right on the money for the F-86! |

I've had my hands on these two.. Castle AFB/ Museum, Atwater CA |

Sweep:
The A-6 Intruder is gone, F/A-18 takes its role. The E/A-6 Prowler uses an enlarged A-6 airframe with 4 seats and is still in service for electronic warfare. Kharn |

That B-36 is a good one. I got to crawl around inside the one at the Air Force museum once. It's definitely a throwback to a different era.
You guys do realize that 90% of the aircraft that are on your wish list are no longer, right?
Any of the WWII stuff has long since been recycled or sold. |

The B52 pic shown isn't a B model. The clipped tail positively identifies it as a G or H model, and that particular one is one of the H models, which are all that are left in service.
I've always wondered about the decision to clip that tall vertical stabilizer. Generally speaking, aircraft designers don't really like to REDUCE the size of a control surface. What was their rationale for the change? CJ |
I googled B52B and thats the one I got. I wouldnt know a B from a H from a Z if it fell on me. [shrug] |
