I would take a new supra over a new vette if toyota was still making them, and if it was between a 98 supra and a 98 vette. If it was between 98 supra and a new vette then it'd be the vette no question though.

I'd take a stock C6 over a stock ZO6. I would take a stock ZO6 over a low milage, stock or not, Supra.
Even with 5 stated hp less than the ZO6, the C6 gets to the end of the 1/4 mile faster, in 12.2secs, and holds up better on the skid pad.

Thoses statistics don't realy mean shit to me. If I spent the money on a car like the Vette or Supra, I want it to perform and be reliable. I want to be able to keep the RPMs high in the twisties and not worry about lessining my engines life. I want the clutch to last, quick responding short throw shifter, and most of all, I want a feel for the road.

Stock for stock, the Vette gets it done the way I want it done.

Not at all a slam on "engineers" or mechanics who have spent their hard earned money and time developing the Supra or the RX7.

Edited for spelling

I voted for the Z06 'cause it's the better all-around car.  The new '05 C6 and upcoming '06-07 C6 Z06 will sweeten the deal even further.  Not to mention the twin-turbo Supra (with its excellent forged internals) hasn't been imported to the US market since '97-98.

Someone else mentioned a stock-for-stock comparison (Z06 wins) versus mod-for-mod (TT Supra wins).  Good point, but only in terms of drag racing.

I saw a supra the other night with a few mods done to it with a bumper sticker that read:

Out to go kill a v8 powered domestic "Sports" car, back in 12.34 seconds

needless to say I'm partial to the supra,

What do a 400 Hp and 800 HP Supra have in common?
A 13 second quarter.

Uhm, I've seen 400HP Supras run 12 second 1/4's and more powerful Supras run much faster.  The Z06 is an incredible beast though.  My friend just picked up a 2002 and it's awesome.  However, I can actually drive a Supra.  I can't even fit behind the wheel of a C5 vette.

Those guys with the Titan Supra were running in the high 7's IIRC. Granted it had slicks on it and was a drag car, but wasn't far from streetable.

The Supra is in a different class then the Vette. The Vette is the best the US has to offer.

The Supra is on the low end of Supercars.

Most expensive Supra here is 50?k.  Most expensive Corvette is 120?k.  Prices are in AUD.

There are so many Supras that they are starting to annoy me.  Same with Nissan Skylines.

The size of the exhaust can on most of them is positively HUGE!  Most people who drive them are really annoying as well.

Ricers such as Supras and Skylines etc are nicknamed "fully sick" cars because the people who own them usually dont have a good grasp of the friggin english lanuage and they always call their car associated things "fully sick".  Eg  fully sick subwoofer, fully sick rims, fully sick sound system, etc.

The international students here all bloody drive Supras or Skylines.

I hear the same terms here, a Vette is nearly half that here, after $ conversion I could have picked up an all oringal one 79 vette for $3500.
Alot of people here think the Skyline is the most powerful one.

I reckon Skylines and Supras are ugly bastards, especially because I see em all the damn time.

Ive heard some bad things about the stock turbos on the Supras.  Heard stuff about them fucking up/breaking/whatever so alot of people go out and buy a single large turbo for it rather than fuck around with 2 small turbos.

Vettes look damn sexy to me.  I dont think ive seen any Vettes on the road which are newer than a 1980? model.  Ive seen about 3 on the road total.  I see more Rolls Royce's and Bentley's than Vettes!

With the Corvette vs. Supra thread going I thought I would share a story about my run in with the ricer fleet.
I was driving into work to meet a client Saturday afternoon.  I have a 2002 Viper as discussed in antoher thread here. As I slow to the light by the freeway onramp I hear the fartpipe mufflers.  All of a sudden I am surrounded by cheap ass CRX's and CIVIC's Prelude's, Supras.  You get the idea.  Big ugly wraparound stickers, fart paipes, Type R badges everywhere.  I just roll my eyes.  The ricer clan proceeded to hit their nitrous purge doing the steam in the air in front of the windsheild thing.  Like taunting me and shit.  I roll my eyes and laugh.  Now thay are pissed.  What happens next is just too stupid for words.  I wish I had a video for you guys.  The ricers in the Supra next to me actually put on helmets and start smoking their tires.  I couldn't tell if they were mad or just wanting to run.  Now I am visibly laughing out loud.
So we pull up onto the freeway.  They proceed to get on both sides of my car and behind.  They keep doing the popping the clutch thing lurching in front and back of my car.
Then the ricers in the Supra with the helmets on give me the forward finger like "let's go!" and they hit their button and haul ass...
I look over to the Prelude on my right.  I hold up my hand and count 1,2,3,4,5 then floor it.  I caught and passed the Supra in no time.  I wave bye bye out the window and head into work with a great story for my client.
Now this may not reflect all Supra owners.  But it is indiciative of just how utterly stupid the ricer community is.  I don't care how much shit you bolt on your Supra, your not gonna beat me.  Not even on a good day buddy...Sprinkle glitter on a turd...it's still a turd.

Vette's are OK, but it seems they are much more common than the Supra.

I'd take the Vette, but for reasons not this hair brained.

The Vette is an instant classic.  You can keep this car and give it to your kids one day and its an hairloom.  The Supra, althought the better of the cars as far as sports cars go, is not as special as a vette, even thought they're relatively rarer.  If its a money thing, you can buy the Supra and mod it for well under what a Z06 costs.  The interior will be nicer and the car will handle better, but it'll still seem like a kid's car, since its cheaper and the price to get into one is far less than a Z06.  Then there's always the possibility that someone already drove the wheels off the used Supra, which is atleast 8 years old for a newer sample and you will have a headache, instead of a sweet ride.

For that reason, I'd buy new and go with the Vette.

That's a nice Viper.  I've always loved them because they're just an overkill car.  What do you have done to it?

But the 2JZ powered MKIV Supra, either in twin (factory) or single large turbo (what most people upgrade to) configuration is anything but a turd, even in stock trim.  The NA Supra is pointless, and most likely what you raced.  Most Supra owners I know are not ricers, because most ricers can't afford a turbo Supra.  I used to hang out with a bunch of street racers in Houston, and we never saw ANYTHING like what you described.  Which area of town were you in?

I dunno.... My last 'Vette had a problem... Or rather I did....a problem digging the ricer-rods out of the exhaust all the time....

You've gotta be joking--a Supra over a Z06?
Because it looks like a $12,000 car with a wing (wing is no + in IMO)?
Because it sounds like a leaf blower at full revs?
Because it runs like--well, okay, you can make 'em run, but...

Just funnin' ya, of course. But I'll take a 'Vette over anything made in Japan. Now if you're talking some serious Euro iron, I might be persuaded to stray from my Bowling Green Baby.
