Our T.O.'s in the Air Force state "30-80 ft-lbs". Many times I have torqued to 80 ft-lbs to clear the barrel nut, and I have never had a problem. If you prefer not to torque the nut that tight, you could always grind a tooth off the nut for your gas tube to clear with a dremel... of course, this is a no-no in the military, but it works fine. Good luck...

35 foot pounds is fine, 40 is better, 45 is PERFECT, & 50 is pretty damned tight. Back up to the next tooth, & you'll be fine. For Christ's sake don't make it any tighter, is may not crack, but what's it going to get you (besides being a pain in the ass to remove next time)? |
