Electronics Tech. Cert. from DeVry Inst. of Phoenix, 1983, plus some extra college just to keep up. A+ Cert. class but I didn't take the test. I wish I'd have studied harder when I was in school. If ya'll are in school now, do your best because it really is important.

You should edit your post to say "Funny majors need not apply"
Myself, I am still in college. Only because I have nothing to prove, but need the paper to prove it. I'm aiming toward Neurophysiology, but my English teacher swooned over my writing ability and thought I should be a writer. Which ever. |
|
I only have high school here. After highschool, it made me not want to go any further and after hearing the stories of college I dont really care to go.

B.S.
M.S. Working towards a Ph.D. Who knows if that last bit will ever be completed given the current situation. It's a race against time. |

On any given trip to the range, IPSC, IDPA or PPC match I find myself in the company of everyone from MENSA PHD's to card carrying village idiots...
I'd put myself somewhere between. We gun owners/shooters are an eclectic lot. |
|
It don't matter ifn I'm edumakated or not cause I still have my rifle gun!
|
|
Gun owners, as a group, are more educated, make more money and are far more law abiding than the average American. We're just vilified in the press as slack-jawed hicks because ad hominem attacks are easier than attacking logic.
for the poll: BA - Accounting, BA - Finance (University of Utah) |

I was noticing that. Now the last two choices are 61 percent each. |

My grandfather had an 8th grade educatio but he was smarter and better-read than some PhDs.

Ummm... it DID occur to you that those of us with degrees (for which we worked hard, of which we are proud, etc.) might be much more likely to respond to your thread, right?... Plus, this or something similar gets posted on a fairly regular basis. But not to rain on your BS, MBA, MPH ETA: My wife (a gun owner also): BS (x2), JD |

I'm educated enough to know that education is a suspect measure of intelligence. Intelligent people usually seek out an education, which is the main thing that drives this assumption. However, in the modern era, getting 'an education' is a default condition in middle/upper class America, so even morons who can afford college end up with acedemic credentials. It is NOT the measure it once was.
For the record I'm a 4 year university grad. I saw enough boneheads graduating with me to eliminate 'a degree' as a measure of a person. |

I can bear witness to the fact that a college degree and stupidity/ignorance are not mutually exclusive. |

I agree with you. The trend seems to be that everyone should go to college. While seemingly laudable, many occupations don't require that level of education and it sort of diminishes the value of higher education (except for personal enlightenment) if everyone has it. Who's going to collect the garbage, push the brooms, dig the ditches and lean on shovels, wash the dishes, work the assembly lines, etc., etc. College educated people won't want to and it would be a waste to have them do so. Are we creating a society in which we will need an endless supply of illegal immigrants to do the menial and blue collar work? Second generation immigrants will go to college and we will always need another wave of first generation workers The Mexican-American war is being refought. This time, however, we are capitulating. Sorry for the rant. Does this make me a racist? Probably in some circles. |

I had to put 2 to 4 year college as I'm still attending.
I started late because I decided to serve my country before myself. Nice little jab to the lurking socialists out there. |

You should have seen the faces of the arts crowd when I exhibited a bunch of paintings with targets and Black Rifles after the AWB - |

I never went to college and I am doing good. I always thought that the education didn't matter. Because there are book smarts and street smarts. And from what I have seen people with alot of book smarts are lacking in street smarts and have a difficult time trying to live with simple things. I have seen alot of college grads that couldn't function properly because they don't know how to react to unforeseen problems. I always thought that your IQ meant more than how far you went in school. Then again I have an IQ of 157 and have never wanted to further my education because I felt I had no need to. Thanks

A lot is 2 words.... one of the few things I remember from grade school.
I finished high school with about a C average due to boredom with school, and lost interest in college after finishing nothing but PE classes and 2 computer courses. Yet I was still making $40k at 20 and about $60k at 22. Times got tough when the computer geek market dried up here... that's where I think at least a 2-year degree would have helped. I still think it's just a simple piece of paper...but, too many other a$$ wipes think it's more. 10 years of experience and I get passed over for the jerk with a degree. :( My cousin has 2 masters in useless stuff... like English and history or some $hit. She works for the communist state of California yet still wishes every day that she could carry a concealed revolver with her to work. |
