A few years ago Buick imported and sold a station wagon, the Regal TourX I think it was...as God is my witness, it was the only GM vehicle I have ever considered actually purchasing with my own money. Even the fact that it was a Buick didn't really dissuade me...

1981 Caprise Classic .... Diesel. Top men at Chevy designed that motor. TOP MEN.

Yep. We had a Torino with the fake woody sides and then an Impala wagon. Slow. Guzzled gas. Lots of fun.

Quoted: Ours from the early 1970s. I know it was a dodge but not sure what model. Folks called it the dragon wagon. Lots of memories. https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/27489/D9D6E651-2147-4819-AF3A-956F9DB04CDB_jpe-2694206.JPG View Quote That is a Monaco wagon. |

Bought a a '65 Falcon Wagon the week before Thanksgiving. Finishing up the EFI swap on it then it will take daily driver status.

Most SUVs are just station wagons with a higher roof line.
What's old is new again. |

Quoted: I also bemoan the death of the station wagon, and am actively considering one for my next vehicle. I actually thought the most recent generation of the Buick station wagon seemed pretty neat, but they decided to discontinue it after it didn't sell well (because they didn't advertise it at all). View Quote That wagon, with a larger engine with more horsepower than it had, and all wheel drive would have been awesome |

A 1966 Pontiac Tempest wagon resto-mod would be way cool
A resto-mod like this one featured by Hemmings would be a blast on long family road-trips & camping. |

The old Dodge Magnum SRT-8 was kind of a sleeper, especially if you had the regular hood on it.
It had the 6.1 liter Hemi good for 425 HP in the mid-2000s |

Ive got a restored 72' Chevelle SS wagon and in the process of putting a 540 big block and with a TKX600 behind it. Definitely my favorite muscle car I own.

I've always thought that a big German AWD station wagon would be the perfect car for a European Grand Tour.
That said, here's mine. It's not fast, it's not interesting, but it'll carry me and whatever shit I load it with comfortably down any road I want to take it. Attached File |

When I was a wee lad, I made a reasonable facimile of an M2 and a flexible mount out of some 2X4 and a broomstick. My dad would let me ride in the back of the Olds Vista-Cruiser, with the back window down, and be the tail gunner.
Some cars shot back with finger guns. |

Youngsters today have no concept of solid steel front dashboards! I do like today's SUVs, they offer a wide variety of choices in performance and utility. I own, and have owned, several. Mine are used offroad more than most. I also like the styling of some of the old land yachts. The cars of my youth, so yes, there is some nostalgia there that surpasses practicality. |

The Audi RS station wagon is cool AF. RS 6 Avant.
The Subu Wildwhatever is pretty neat too. |

I bought one that came off a lease right before used car prices went nuts and I love it. It drives great, is very comfortable and very quiet inside. Great factory stereo, good milage. It's gutless off the line but from 50-100 mph it gets after it effortlessly. 2.5L, turbo 4 cylinder. Just don't wreck it, insurance will total them out over minor shit cuz theres no replacements out there. I'll be sad when its time to get rid of it. |

The station wagon gave way to the SUV, and kinda crawled back a little as the "crossover".
First car I really got to drive was a 1975 AMC Hornet wagon. 3 on the tree, power NOTHING. |

Hell yeah! Grew up with these.
Un-Official Country Squire (wagon) Song and Video. |

I grew up with a '73 Plymouth Sport Suburban wagon, 400 cid. We called it the aircraft carrier since you could probably land planes on it it was so long. Fender mounted turn signals were cool. Sometimes on a cold morning the thing would stall at the intersection down the street from our house, dang that car was hard to handle with no power anything... My little sister took it to college with her when we all grew up. Good times...

We had a Rambler station wagon with push button transmission when I was a kid. I loved going from the front to the back to the back-back, then back to the back and then to the front. We don't need no stinkin' seat belts. Later, I learned to drive in a '64 American wagon with a flat head 6 and 3-on-the-tree. I had visions of making it a "sleeper."
As a young adult I got a great deal on a '75 Vega station wagon (it wasn't really full-sized, but $500 at 24,000 miles and I was behind the wheel.) Another guy and I were the first full-time service crew for a small business, and we were given the owner's old Ford Country Esquire wagon to shove our ladders, tools and spare parts in as we tootled around DC. It was navy blue with fake wood paneling. We called it The Blue Goose. They really do need to bring wagons back. Fukabuncha Ess You Vees. |
