Every day is a vacation.
I have noticed lately that going on a trip somewhere seems to resemble work. I’m not complaining. |

Had a short vacay to Texas when my wife and I went to see her grandfather turn 100.
Late Feb/early March. |

Well, this thread wasn’t nearly as sad as I would thought.
It’s been about three weeks. Flew to Chicago, spent a night there, then jumped on Amtrak to ride all the way to San Francisco. Spent a couple days in California. Very enjoyable. Going on a cruise with the folks in January. First one and looking forward to it. |

1 year.
Currently 5 days away from spending 3 weeks in the Caribbean. |

I'm on one now!
In an AirBnB in Navarre, Flordy...typing this..fucking A! Attached File Longest was during a financial rough spell when my children were young...six years. Felt horrible i had to keep them away from the giant sandbox so long. |

Went to Paris four years ago. I liked it more than the first time back in the 70's. Not technically a vacation, we got married by Elvis in Las Vegas three years ago. Since then herself has had several surgeries, so we haven't traveled. Growing up we went somewhere every year.

5 years, unless you count driving my kids to the aquarium 90 minutes away a few months ago.
Thinking about it, I get 4 weeks paid vacation a year. Guess I'd rather be working. |

Work hard, play hard.
We usually take a week every 2-3 months. 3 mos is pushing it. |
|
So, how do you vacation? How do you decide to go, where to go, what to do? I'm afraid if I went on vacation, I would just sleep the time away. I have no fucking idea how to enjoy myself.

I'm retired but the last real vacation was last year camping in Colorado and Wyoming for a month. Today I told my wife I need a week on an island soon.

Got home last Wednesday.
Longest stretch, maybe a year or two. Depends on how you define "vacation" really. |

Like not taking a day off from work? Or taking time off but working through it?
I took a day off work a week ago. I worked around the house, and worked around the house all week I had off this past Summer too. Last “do nothing” vacation was like 4 years ago. Went to Alaska. |
|
March 2021. Me and the wife went to Aruba. Had an amazing time. Spent 4 days. Ww are wanting to go back early next spring while the Easter winds are blowing again.

On my third vacation of the year now. Wife loves to travel , so I guess I do too.

Somewhere between 35 to 40 years. Sucks being on call 24/7/365

Few years iirc, now i go once or twice a year for a full week. I like doing things other than work sometimes.

My vacation time doesn't roll over, so I take a vacation every year. Last one was late spring in Land Between the Lakes.

View Quote Try a 7 day cruise on a decent line, minimum. You'll avoid the Walmart folks and won't get sick if you practice basic hygiene, I promise. You just show up, and the fun is brought to you. Of course, it isn't for everyone, and they'll all be along shortly with the same 5 cliche comments. |

I go places but work won't leave me
alone probly like 7 years since I really disconnected |

9 years.
To those of you asking how some of us can never go on vacation, I have only this to say: I don't understand the point of it, I have no desire to go on vacation, it has always been a chore. No matter where I've been, a good portion of America when I was younger, or even the few times that I left the country, I always wanted to come home after a day or two anyway. "But don't you want to see Paris?!?! Or Rome?!?!". NO, fuck off! For those of you who brag about laying around on the beach, smoking a cigar, nursing a beer without a care in the world, well, I would literally open a vein and bleed out before I did that. The whole thing seems pointless to me. Maybe someday I will get it. God knows I could use a vacation! |

Sitting in the Airbnb right now in the mountains of NC during peak fall. Second mountain vacation this month. I don't get these threads where people brag how long they have gone without a vacation. It's stupid. You get very few revolutions around the sun on this earth and there are many on this site that like to brag about how little they have lived their life? Makes no sense to me but you do you. I only get to see my kids grow up once.
ETA: I take MONTHS of vacation each year. No one ever died wishing they spent more time at work. |

View Quote For me, it usually revolves around my interests, and it usually has a tight itinerary from dawn till dusk. I've posted my photo threads here. For example, I am very interested in WW2, so I've been on a WW2 world tour since 2017 when I went to Pearl Harbor. Then Poland in 2019 where I saw 4 death camps but also visited my ancestral home town of Krosno. Then west Europe (such as Belgium/France) to see the western WW2 stuff in 2021. On that trip I also picked a random village in the Swiss Alps to spend a few days in. The crown jewel of my WW2 world tour will be in 2024 when I put my hands in the sands of Iwo Jima (followed by Hiroshima and Nagasaki). That will complete my tour. Then last December I went to Chernobyl because as a nuclear operator that actually loves what I do, I have a deep interest in things like that. Similar to when I visited Auschwitz, seeing it in pictures just doesn't do it justice. I wanted to stand there and be in the place, and it was very moving to me (both Auschwitz and Chernobyl, that is). Mixed in there I travelled to several National Parks for both outdoors but also Revolutionary War stuff, because the US has a lot to offer as well, obviously. But I like experiencing other cultures to expand my world view hence I love international travel. I went to the UK this summer, and for the short time I was in Scotland (Edinburgh), I decided the Highlands was a place I wanted to go WITHOUT an itinerary for once, and so I am this February. It will be mostly devoid of tourists and I have no agenda written down other than base camping in Inverness. Because, why not? |

Define "vacation". I regularly take personal time off. 3/4 day weekends.

I'm in my 40s, have a wife and several kiddos. We've never taken a vacation. Can't afford it.
